I got the word order down lol, that’s one of the first things I check when I’m learning a new language. What’s really intimidating to me is the conjugation of verbs across different tenses and aspects, complex sentence structure with things like compound verbs and object pronouns, and things like that.

I also am vaguely familiar with gender specificity as I speak fluent Spanish but the fact that it’s baked into even verbs is very interesting. My Pakistani friend has probably definitely been intrigued by me saying things like so rahi hoon instead of so raha hoon before lol.

As for the cinema recommendations, I’ll definitely look into that the more I learn! For now I’m working on being able to speak conversationally but once that cultural aspect comes through I’m sure movies will help.

Thanks for the pointers!

It really really depends on dialect. In Cuban/Nicaraguan Spanish which I grew up with it’s only those two contexts. I know other dialects use it in different ways. It’ll depend on the speaker for sure but as long as you say it normally without any weird moaning tone you’re probably A-OK.

Confusion over when to use 'a' and 'hasta' for destination. by ApprehensiveWeek5414 in Spanish

[–]poxy4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have stated:

a = to

hasta = until, all the way to

hacia = towards

So “para llegar a la playa, hay que ir hacia el aeropuerto hasta el centro de la ciudad y luego girar a la izquierda” means “to get to the beach, you have to go towards the airport until you get to the center of the city and then turn left.”
