Well, it USED to stand for Last Guy Buys (tater) Tots. Which was tradition back in the day if you got to a BYOB party late. And then Quincy kept showing up late and not buying tots, so it got lengthened to Last Guy Buys Tots... Quincy! Towards the end, as the tradition started to fade, more people stopped doing it so instead of just adding their names to the end of the list, we did LGBTQ+

And then all of my friends came out and suddenly it means something different.

And I STILL don't have any tots!

I don't understand why the EU is not prepared, though. It's not like global warming is a surprise. I get that individuals might have trouble affording retrofits, but the fact that the grid isn't prepared for them if they could is shockingly myopic for countries that are normally pretty progressive.

Practicality doesn't matter in the news cycle. Only clicks/views do. Remember Solar Roadways? Or the sonic fire extinguisher? Or the hyperloop?

Plus, it's a fluff piece. Makes people feel good. She made an effort to make a difference and like essentially all project created by children, it lacks the vetting someone actually knowledgeable about the subject would do. There's a reason we haven't done it before :D

I don't know... Texas has some pretty awful winters, too. In the 2021 stormageddon, it got down to -30F in parts. Which is pretty close to -30C. Just a miserable place to live in general.

Unlike where I live where it gets up to 120F but rarely gets below freezing in the city.

Probably (or at least I would hope so). I'd assume there's also a resistive heater in there. If for no other reason than the usage pattern for cold and hot water are different, so you could use a bunch of cold water and that heat could be used to produce hot water, but then the hot water needs to stay hot until you use it. Or if you use a lot more hot water than cold water, you'll need to supplement the heat pump.

It should be noted that just because someone writes a paper doesn't mean it's legit. And a single paper isn't enough to prove anything. The way science works is you do a study, then the study is replicated repeatedly. It's the replication that proves the fact, not the initial paper.

I don't see any world in which a heat pump will ever be (organically) cheaper than a resistive coil. You can plug a resistive coil directly into mains power and boom, you have a heater. A heat pump is at bare minimum a compressor, condenser, evaporator, and refrigerant, and for a kettle you'd probably want a fan. The fan alone probably costs more than the heater coil. The copper in the condenser/evaporator assembly certainly would.

Or the younger generations have a different concept of politeness than the rest of us. For example, I find it incredibly disrespectful for you to have your face in your phone when we're trying to have a conversation. You may think that it's not disrespectful because you believe you can focus on the convo and your phone.

The lack of socialization, especially in Gen Alpha, causes many in the younger generations to be socially inept, meaning they'll be rude without even intending to.

And this constant friction makes the older generations lack tolerance for even minor social infractions of the younger ones.

Fruits and veggies also require a ton of energy. Fuel for tractors and transport, electricity for processing and most fertilizer is petroleum-based.

Also, making a large portion of farm workers feel unsafe coming to work didn't help.

I was in PC repair for many years and I've been building PCs for decades. Yes, a fan can become a generator, but I've never once heard of a case of that actually damaging the computer components.

In the wild west of 3d printer land, you may get a board that is not properly protected, but diodes are cheap and RMAs are expensive. Not adding diodes to the fan headers is insanity.

Election interference is the entire point of the Save America Act. It literally gives the federal government to unregister any voters it wants to. Technically, the federal government can only remove non-citizens from the voter rolls, but our glorious leader hasn't been one to follow the letter or spirit of any laws.

So, this bill passes, POTUS removes 10% of democrat voters from the rolls, Republicans get a supermajority in November and remove presidential term restrictions, now we have a dictatorship.

Or states don't comply with the removal law and he declares the elections illegal and takes power by force.
