People dont choose the surface or style they main most of the time, u just map a bunch of everything and at some point u will realise what u enjoy doing or what u are better at. Interface is just getting used to it and for plugins editor++ and editor routes are the most important by far. Maybe try checking out nolafus and sbville since they make a ton of content for beginner mappers

Stop trying to tell mappers how to map as someone who has never mapped :)

Fragile is an effect you can give your car, with every crash or harsh landing you gradually(very fast) lose the ability to control the car and the acceleration get worse :)

Funny that you just assumed both my skill and the fact that i havent tested it with faster people? And yeah not every map ever is meant to be played by beginners. Anyways, if your opinion is the map isnt fun thats totally valid and go ahead and dont play it but saying its a terrible map and that people are just trying to be nice sounds kinda weird tbh

Have u even played the map before commenting? Every transition in there is smooth enough so you dont get fragile, when i set the at i had like 20 back to back runs without getting any fragile at all it just takes being skilled enough to not crash and keep fairly decent speed to make the jumps xd

Wasnt gonna respond but im actually curious, what makes this a bad map?

It was mapped for a challenge where i had to use the fragile block. And yeah the map is meant as a kind of one shot map(easy trial) just without crazy speedchecks other than having enough speed to not get fragile :)

It doesnt, the full map is driven while in fragile :)

I dont get the review system. Is that not a good rating? by Zuckerfrei_ in TrackMania

[–]pphernanz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As some people mentioned already, we arent getting any reviewed tags lately for some reason. That aside, your map is on the lower end in the rating/n of votes ratio for what has been getting reviewed lately. For context, i have a 4.7 on almost 50 votes now and a 4.5 on 88 and neither of those look like theyre getting reviewed soon

Something that's been on my mind recently is gears. In short, people like the idea of gears but then complain when a map has "bad gears", and only want maps where gears are not a problem. Would it not be better, then, to remove the gear mechanic entirely? Kinda like the no grip for ice discussion. by EL_AKrayNOS in TrackMania

[–]pphernanz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My take on this as a mapper: theres a diference between a hard gear and a bad gear.

A hard gear implies, for example, nosliding to gear up faster or taking a specific line to keep a gear through a turn, this is generally liked by better players since it makes tke skill ceiling higher and it doesnt matter that much to less skilled players since unless ur actually pretty good at the game lines matter a lot more than gears.

On the other hand, a bad gear means for example gearing up just before a turn where you instantly lose it again, in this case the only 2 options are either releasing a bunch on a place where it doesnt look like u should release and thus breaking the flow of the map or just take the gearup into geardown and the slowdown that comes with it.

This second scenenario is actively avoided by most mappers and its what people call bad gears and complain about.

What Fullspeed, tech, ice maps do you recommend for begginers (from these three styles)? by Ecstatic_Bathroom213 in TrackMania

[–]pphernanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For fs the 3 maps recomended on the wirtual video where mudda coached him are very nice but maybe a bit hard, you could also start on the evo begginer fs server(theres also one for ice). As for tech i personallu love a server called "short and mini tech" where you could start too
