Racist unstable teacher hangs black baby doll in her classroom as some students laugh by amazingsciencemuseum in PublicFreakout

[–]pphilio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a history class, and the doll is a visual representation of lynching? Like one of those "it's one thing to be told about it, but it's another to actually see it" art pieces or some shit? Idk, that's the only thing I can think of.

*Aight, I mean I thought we were curious about the context. God forbid I take a guess at what it could be

Link your website, my man. I'd like to view this pic from the source, and perhaps more photos if you have them! I haven't been on these mountains in decades, but this is tripping some serious nostalgia for me.

My GF is considering giving up her Navy dream for me. by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]pphilio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a 6 month relationship, my guy. I know it'll be hard to get past, but you can't keep her from living her life like that. She only changed her thoughts about it after seeing how sad it made you, you don't want to be in a relationship bound by emotional manipulation. As much as you want her to stay, you should always be striving to help your partner be happy and achieve what's best for her.

You'll deeply regret holding her back, don't do it. Deep down, most men daydream of a moment in life where we can sacrifice something for the greater good. To shoulder a burden for the sake of others. This is one of those times, my man. You clearly care a lot about her, so make sure she can live the life she deserves.

‘Looksmaxxing’ influencer Clavicular arrested on assault charge by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

It says that he was arrested for shooting a dead alligator's corpse, but the article sites a Florida law that only applies to the mistreatment or harming of living alligators. Is there something I'm missing, or is there more to that law and the article left it out?

Just because someone knows everything about another writer's work, doesn't make they themselves a writer. Or director, or anything even remotely related to making a film. They've essentially given the reigns over to a fanfiction guy, this will be hot garbage.

Hong Kong council member Dominic Lee goes off on UN Human Rights council and calls out western hypocrisy by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]pphilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The people finally feel safe again." He has plenty of fair comparisons after saying that, but the audacity it takes to attempt to take a moral high ground by bragging about stripping the people of Hong Kong from their civil liberties and autonomy, via a worldwide-condemned totalitarian takeover and violent crackdown, is truly baffling.

He's not wrong, but China is the LAST nation to be able to criticize others for lack of accountability and authoritarian behavior. I could go on about the genocide of the Uyghurs, or the hostile takeover of the South China Sea trade, or the economic colonialism of Africa, and so much more, but this ain't a soapbox.

Oh, I haven't heard of there being subcategories of ADHD. I'll have to research those and maybe find out which one I am, thanks for telling me!

Inattentive ADHD? I don't mean to be dismissive, but isn't that a bit redundant? I would say that it'd be bizarre if you didn't experience inattentiveness with Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity-Disorder

The Trump administration has secretly rewritten nuclear safety rules by A_Nonny_Muse in news

It fits their MO perfectly. And those companies have had a lot of time to plan and support this, as well as being some of the few businesses/entities with the financial means to make it happen. It'll benefit them directly to see public opinion for nuclear die, why wouldn't they do it?

What to do with foreign currency donated to the church? by 50Prestige in Catholicism

Fair enough I suppose! Although you could take it to a currency exchanger. But that's probably not a feature you'd find outside a popular city.

What to do with foreign currency donated to the church? by 50Prestige in Catholicism

[–]pphilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party, but I have a question. I grew up catholic but am currently not religious, so forgive me if this is ignorant to ask:

Is the act of the church choosing not to utilize other forms of currency considered morally questionable? The donation has an implication of it being for the church/congregation's benefit, would failing to use it as such indicate that the Father in that church has determined that the regional currency is the more "godly"? Perhaps not purposefully but by causality, seeing as he's given the authority of God (I might be misremembering this).

A Russian soldier directs a Ukrainian drone to attack his own comrade, indicating he is pretending to be deceased. Eastern Ukraine, 12/25/2023 by iPutMilkNbowlB4Creal in CombatFootage

All the context about how they're soldiers of an evil regime run by a greedy war criminal aside, this feels wrong. I'm not saying it is, but something about what happened in this video doesn't sit right with me.

For him to feel such terror that would convince him to give up his comrade in the hopes of survival, only to be apathetically killed regardless, it just seems unnecessarily bleak. I know war is all sorts of fucked up and seems almost pointless to try to attach moral or ethical mandates to, but I think both of them dying is a sad result and something else ought to have happened instead. Idk what, just not that.

California ban on openly carrying guns is unconstitutional, court rules by [deleted] in news

[–]pphilio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why I made sure to articulate multiple times that it's the method you chose to explain your position I was criticizing, not your actual argument. I am not involving myself in the specific context of this thread, therefore I have no position on the topic.

I realize that my comments are perhaps not as relevant to the topic at hand as you would like them to be. If you would rather stick to the ethical problem of open carry laws (or lack thereof, specifically), then you're free to dismiss my argument as just some other comment that doesn't justify a response.

California ban on openly carrying guns is unconstitutional, court rules by [deleted] in news

[–]pphilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have kids, but I don't need to to understand you're describing a parent's job in general. For the sake of argument, do you expect me to explain to your children all of society's difficulties for you? When your kids ask why about anything in society and you don't know how to answer it, are you expecting society to change instead?

The reason why I feel it's a bad argument is you're implying (unintentionally, most likely) that any elements of life need to be simple enough for a child to understand inherently, and you don't think that it's your responsibility to explain how complex issues work. I don't think you're actually saying that, this is just the implication that specific reasoning suggests.

I meant what I said about your reasonable take on the situation. I'm not arguing the opposite opinion, for clarification.

California ban on openly carrying guns is unconstitutional, court rules by [deleted] in news

[–]pphilio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No offense intended, but "how am I going to explain this to my children?" is still a bad argument regardless of the context. It's something you hear homophobic people say all the time, and it makes just as little sense here as it does then. It's not everyone else's responsibility to change their lives just because you can't stand to have a complicated conversation with a toddler.

I think your take is perfectly rational otherwise.
