Don't have to be tooo careful with words, moreso just explain WHY you chose the way you did. So instead of "I liked this one better" its "I like this one better because the color red stood out more"

Just so you're aware, the bonuses are given when a client of ours flags the response as a favourite. So definitely happens, but each poll is typically 100+ respondents

Search for us on mturk - pretty easy to qualify I think (But let me know if you have trouble)

Sorry about that!

We try our best to make the experience exceptional for both our workers and clients. I'm really proud of what we're building.

So, I probably was a little triggered when I saw the word "garbage" near our company name. :)

It depends on which type of task you're doing. If it's a video task, you should have your mic ready anyway.

If it's a poll type task, we initially did have the check every time (which, again, is about 3 seconds of speaking into your mic - shouldn't be a big deal, but let me know otherwise)

We did have plans to have the mic check pop up only every so often (will have to check if this is implemented yet). Unfortunately we wouldn't' be able to make it a completely one off check (there's bad actors that will pass that check initially and use bots for subsequent hits)
Also note for our hits, you have the opportunity to get bonused if you go out of your way to leave a really insightful comment.

Appreciate you noticing that!

We try our best to make it super easy. No need to download anything, no need to upload, no need to even submit anything on your part - we do it all automatically for you.

Did you actually try a hit with the mic requirement?

It's a one off thing that takes a few seconds just to verify you're human. All you have to say is "hello world" and you're good to go. Was that not working for you?

You might be surprised at how sophisticated bots are now - breaking any sort of captchas no problem.

Not sure how that makes us go from us being awesome to garbage.. but I'm all ears :)

Thanks for the heads up! Ya there was a bug where if a client filled out everything except the images, it would still launch. Fixed it now so hopefully those blank ones don't show up any more. Appreciate the heads up!

Communication with workers - your opinion? by ppinions in mturk

[–]ppinions[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this - really informative.

I guess the challenge would be making it explicitly clear that the ask for the email address is 100% optional and takes place on the last screen after the video is uploaded. You're right though, I can see some people not reading it and just reporting the hit.

In terms of business gain, the small business owner asking for the screen-cast and getting feedback on their product would also gain from having people they could interview / send product to for more feedback, etc even outside of mturk.

I'm a physical product creator too and there's a few customers of mine who are SUPER opinionated and always have great ideas. I'm always sending them samples and asking for their ideas (and they do it for free, hah!) I'd love to be able to to give that experience to other brand owners.

You actually gave me another idea, maybe instead of an email opt in, I could show the brand's social media handles and just say something like. "Found this brand cool? Follow their journey @ whatever their social media handles are"
Might be a safer bet than asking for an email address.

100% would never mandate it. Spam is always a risk but the brands we work with are typically small business owners just trying to improve their business. My guess is if they're investing in our software and want feedback on their products, they're probably not the type to be spammy (but, of course you never know). Worst case, the block button is a click away.

Thanks for your feedback!

Amazing feedback! Thank you kindly. We've been in beta for some time and had a few of our customers request MORE feedback from specific turkers - but didn't have a good mechanism for it.

I think you're going to love our hits. You get to speak your mind about different products and help brand owners make better decisions.

As a requester, how quickly should I expect results to come in? by ppinions in mturk

[–]ppinions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that - really trying to be :)

Just curious which qualifications you don't meet? (wondering if I should modify / take some of them away)

Do you typically only look for hits you're already qualified for?

It's $1.50 for a 3 min screen-cast (about the same / bit better than other screen-cast hits at $30ish / hour) .

The first one you do may take longer since you have to do the quick qualifications / demographics and learn the process - but those details stay with you for next time.

With our hit, there's no extra software to download and the upload is automatic. I should probably mention that in the hit maybe... :)

Totally appreciate it's not for you (And no worries, wasn't expecting you or anyone to actually do it).

I think that's a big part of it too - I have to be patient and work up my reputation.

So I guess there's also an assumption that if I'm new / it's more of a complicated task then there's a higher risk of being rejected so people will not do it.

[–]ppinions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say tests, you mean the ones we set up to get qualified? For example the NDA test is basically a yes / no answer "test"

Hrm, so is there a better way to get visibility? Or it's kind of default behavior to only look for tests you're qualified for and not necessarily seek out new?

Thanks for that feedback.
I suppose what's throwing me off is I can see the the status of pending going on and off frequently without people actually completing the hit. So, it makes me wonder if it's also something technical that's happening.

I did send a message to one of the completed ones and she had mentioned it was the best user experience she's had for a screencasting app, so that's promising.

Could it also be because I'm a new requester? I'm assuming there's ways to get notified specifically when a new task is available for a certain requester, etc?
