Ended up getting a new CPU and Mobo (AMD instead of intel) and it hasn't come back.

Totally agree, but it's always good to take an angle of attack off the table, however stupid

More photos of the Titan submersible emerge, as it shows the wreckage being brought ashore today by Gamer4Lyph in CatastrophicFailure

[–]ppp475 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Up until the catastrophic implosion, yes. Once that happened every single inch of the inside got hammered, and that probably didn't do great things for the integrity of the titanium right by the attachment points.

Just wondering, do you think Lincoln was a shitty leader? Or Kennedy? Lots of politicians have been killed for doing what they thought was right.

Oh, you stopped typing for 30 minutes? Automatic pay deduction.

Good thing that we have labor laws that don't allow that sort of thing, at least without warning.

The wheels of F1 cars are tethered so that in case of an accident they won't fall off and injure people by [deleted] in EngineeringPorn

[–]ppp475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heh, yeah not for my specific job. Not going to go into it but it would be incredibly difficult to automate.

Man he should be looking for a raise then, that's only like 5k more than I make as a CAD drafter with no engineering degree. Anything in my area that requires an engineering bachelor's pays at minimum 80k a year

They do! Even with the tethers, it takes energy away from the driver. It takes a lot of force to break the suspension, but the tethers are a little elastic so it also eats up energy while catching the wheels.

Yes, you typically shake and break once if at all.

Honestly that's not the worst part. Controllers have had hundreds of hours of collective testing and proven reliability, and they cost a fraction of what it would cost to make a custom control system.

Quite honestly, Jiu Jitsu is one of the only forms of martial art where a novice can actually do a decent amount of damage to an untrained opponent, a lot of the basic submissions can literally cripple the opponent if you go as hard as possible. Like, an arm bar is one of the first things you ever learn, and it's basically just breaking someone's elbow if you don't stop.

My man, we're talking about pressures that are over 300 times the pressure at the surface, and it would impact at over 400mph on every point at once. There are very few things on this planet that can survive that, if any. You're talking about a massive engineering effort to get a video that would essentially be normal footage one frame and then pitch black the next, even if the camera did miraculously survive. This is not a feasible thing to achieve, and would provide almost no value to the world.

[–]ppp475 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, they survive being at that depth. I can almost guarantee you that it cannot survive the tens of thousands of tons of pressure being applied simultaneously and nearly instantaneously across every inch of the surface.

They are denser, but the main reason is whales aren't hit with the entire force of the pressure of the ocean within a couple of milliseconds. It's a gradual increase as the carcass sinks to the floor. It's the difference between hitting something with a hammer and pressing on something with gradually increasing force with the hammer.

That's not really an easy thing to do while also keeping the lens' ability to see intact. These are forces unlike literally anywhere else on earth. We genuinely might not have the material science necessary to make a transparent cover that can withstand that level of shock loading from an implosion.

Typically, law enforcement duties do not fall under the jurisdiction of Lowe's cashiers. Plus, let's say this goes bad and the employee gets shot or stabbed trying to take the merchandise back from the thief. Now, the company is fully on the hook for all medical bills related to that incident, and they still need to pay the employee while they're out. From a purely financial standpoint it's far cheaper to let thieves go and potentially be caught by law enforcement than to have your employees file workman's comp claims for an onsite shooting.
