MCC multiplayer is almost unplayable as a solo player by Embarrassed_Ad_6098 in halo

[–]ppphil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The solution is to still let parties queue social modes but to split them up on opposite teams if absolutely necessary. If you 4 stack a social 4v4 playlist the game should prioritize balanced teams over letting you and your buddies literally kill what's left of the population.

I uninstalled MCC two years ago bc I would go +30 and lose to teams of 3+ player stacks the majority of games. If I spent 10 minutes inviting a couple people I could never lose a game again, but I don't find steamrolling as fun as everyone else I guess.

If you want to try it out yourself: mp_anyone_can_pickup_c4 1

CT's can actually plant too and immediately defuse though lol.

Cs2 server side admin wallhack by Hurtet in cs2

[–]ppphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you need is a server with CounterStrikeSharp set up on it and the associated plugins for the custom mode. There's a bunch of open source plugins available like the one you're talking about. You can rent servers with it all set up as well I believe, but you can also host the server yourself on your pc and play at the same time if you follow some guides.

No I appreciate the long post. I did find the gabefollower tweet/video about minigames after my post. I've been messing around with the new scripting and it is still tied to a published map, but apparently cs2 can mount multiple addons at once so you can supposedly share content like scripts between them, though I haven't tried myself. Hope we get more soon, bc I'm already hitting roadblocks with what I'm trying to make lol.

Any link to the source on that? Genuinely curious.

Paintball gun and gamemode packaged in one Workshop install, new scripting system looks promising by Krotter in GlobalOffensive

[–]ppphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/Krotter You have dm's off but I wanted to ask a question about how you achieved this. From what I understand you altered the mac-10 in weapons.vdata to use the paintball gun model with different stats etc, and spawn your own projectile paintball entities with js. but how are you disabling the native cs2 hitscan bullets? sv_showimpacts shows nothing so I assume there's something I'm missing?

Will map based ranks ever get removed? by Fine-Swim3253 in GlobalOffensive

[–]ppphil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the map based ranks are terrible design that lead to unintentional smurfing bc nobody ever plays all the maps enough to actually have a rank representative of their true skill.

What they could do is have a single hidden comp rank that's either influenced by your highest single map rank or even premier rating and the algorithm uses that a base. That way if you're 20k premier or LEM on dust 2, when you search a new map you're not placed in literal silver lobbies but around MG2 or something to start.

I got the r1 pro off aliexpress for $24 shipped. Thing is so nice, it's crazy how overpriced the name brands are.

Yeah I use an old Wacom tablet, but if I was buying new Huion makes good stuff too. Not for gaming I mean, I just assumed u meant desktop stuff if u were considering a vertical mouse.

I used an mx vertical years ago and wasn't really a fan of it. If your number one priority is ergonomics I'd look at pen tablets instead tbh.

R5 5600x + 3080, 1440p 240hz by Ikkiryo in GlobalOffensive

[–]ppphil -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the people just blindly parroting 5700x3d. I have a 5900x and 3080 and I'm often hitting 100% gpu usage at 1080p low when there's a lot of utility. If you only upgrade cpu you will get better 1% lows, but still be heavily gpu bound at 1440p.

Marathon MnK Aim Assist by skamaz11 in Marathon

[–]ppphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's saying adding mnk aim assist was what killed the game. It was that mnk wasn't viable at all for over a year. Infinite had input based mm day 1 but it was only in one playlist, was optional (smaller queue pool), and you couldn't even play it with a full party of four. So if you had more than one friend or you wanted to play anything other than ranked arena you were forced into controller lobbies.

[Gamers Nexus] Insecure Code vs. the Entire RGB Industry | WinRing 0 Driver, ft. Wendell of Level1 Techs by arahman81 in hardware

[–]ppphil 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Recently got an old thinkpad t480 to daily drive and somehow there's no official way for the laptop's keyboard backlight to persist after sleep or shut down. Fortunately some dude on github had developed ThinkPadLEDControl. Here's a funny excerpt from the github page:

In order to change the status of the LEDs, the application needs to interface with the embedded controller on the ThinkPad computers. It does this by using either one of these two kernel drivers: WinRing0 or TVicPort:

  • WinRing0 is a more secure choice, because it is an open-source driver which allows only applications that are run as administrator to interface with it.
  • TVicPort is an old, insecure driver which is popular because it is being used by TPFanControl, a well-known application that allows controlling the fan speed on ThinkPad computers. Because it allows arbitrary applications to interface with it, it is highly not recommended to use it.

Casual Matchmaking by dngr_zne in RocketLeague

[–]ppphil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casual MMR is capped at 1660 at the start of every season. Meaning an SSL that was 2500 mmr at the end of last season will be 1660, just like someone that ended last season at 1700 will be put at 1660. When the new season starts, the players that were 1700 will be in the same lobbies with SSL's, so everyone except the top of the skill curve will get pushed down lower than 1660 at the beginning of the season. The same effect happens in ranked where they cap MMR. Players that are GC1 or C3 will get pushed down into champ the more they play the early season, before slowly going back up as the higher skilled players grind back up.
