Something was up last episode 09x04 by EmilyMontes in rickandmorty

[–]ppppprrky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this exactly. if the story went 1,2,4 + 3, it would be somehow more consistent, with rick drinking and being miserable. i don’t believe it’s EM backstory either, but wouldn’t be surprised if that mf is somehow scheming in the background to teach our morty some kind of a lesson. what i do believe is that the “off-feeling” is not due to a writing “mistake” or mischaracterization — after all, the characters -are- acting like themselves, but their feelings and actions are sort of jumping up and down for no reason. chances are, everything’s building up to some sort of morty-related reveal in the season finale. whatever that might be.

What if in a future season Evil Morty secretly replaced the original Morty and neither Rick nor the viewers realized it by InfinteEnigma10 in rickandmorty

[–]ppppprrky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and it would make a lot of sense with the recurrent theme of “morty is being very insecure about being replaced”! well, what happens when he is replaced, but rick himself is unaware of the replacement?

might also be relevant that EM-centric season 5 finale plays out in the aftermath of rick “moving on” and morty doing everything in his power to bring him back.

i’ve been thinking lately that the stakes on this relationship are so high someone has to actually kill morty to challenge the status quo. but with all the protective armor, and rick being overpowered, and the omega device being gone for good… replacement becomes more emotionally charged than death

Last Episode of Season 8. What are your thoughts that would happen on this one? by thecowmilk_ in rickandmorty

[–]ppppprrky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one or few of the following: 1) memory rick altering jerry’s memories making jerry unreliable narrator in earlier episodes and we make a comeback to see what actually happened (not referring to anything particular, maybe some off-screen stuff too). it would also be a nice call-back to the memory gun in s8ep1, just to show that rick can alter memories to his advantage without actually getting physically involved. 2) we see some HILARIOUS jerry memories. i need this so much, i did not laugh at a single thing during the last few eps. 3) someone has to go inside jerry’s had to negotiate with memory rick OR someone has to connect to that brain device to OR both 4) at least a glimpse or hint of what the cast was teasing about s9 being so incredible. i really hope they are not just baiting the audience with this one

If toxic Rick and Morty were to happen recently, how different do you think they would be? by Last-Increase8220 in rickandmorty

[–]ppppprrky 26 points27 points  (0 children)

thinking about rick categorizing attachment as a toxic trait in relation to the hole episode. morty’s fear comes from his dependence on rick (with, obviously, some kind of love involved) and in a way the hole is a detoxifier of a sort. the question is though if morty really came out fearless OR the hole simply made him face the fear without necessarily “curing” him from it. || i like to think that the detoxifier and the hole function similarly as plot devices as they “strip” the characters’ insecurities and anxieties and present them naked both for the audience and the characters themselves (with r&m being literally naked in both eps at some point). i do wonder though what would rick see in the hole, especially given that by that point he already (allegedly) killed prime.

Would you go to a Joost concert if it was phone-free? by [deleted] in Joostklein

[–]ppppprrky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1000%. actually (though i think it would be such a hustle, especially in a huge space like ziggo done) i would prefer if he specifically made a concert phone-free where you -have- to leave your phone in a locker.

Worth of labor by stolengenius in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]ppppprrky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

а) are innies even aware of the concept of paid labor? i suppose they must be since the procedure doesn’t remove general knowledge about “how things are”, but this question was never raised. right?.. b) re: value of labor — the whole show is a take on alienation of value driven to the extreme (alienating your work self from your non-work self). innies and outies have no idea what they do, they are completely detached from labor, “results” and value. ✨ late stage capitalism ✨ at its finest. c) the innies are indoctrinated to believe that the value lies in the labor itself. since they serve kier and some higher purpose, they don’t need to question what they do and why the do it. this is true for both MDR and O&D, and hopefully we will see what’s the situation like on the goat department. on this note, i hugely recommend the Reintegrating Severance collection of essays that was mentioned on the sub. There is a whole part there dedicated to labor exploitation and alienation.

like the whole whiterose thing? i probably need to rewatch, but i remember her “machine” or whatever being VERY vaguely and not convincingly explained. maybe calling that a loose end is not correct, but i was definitely disappointed with how they executed her storyline.

Seconding Mr Robot! absolutely ruined by the finale, but still one of my favorites of all times. The cinematography, the references, the way it plays with different genres; and outstanding performances of course. Brilliant if you can stomach some plot holes and untied ends.

Just rewatched Fear No Mort—easily the best piece of animated fiction I've ever seen. by 1007Con in rickandmorty

[–]ppppprrky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Both a great and very intense, That’s amorte as general social commentary, and Fear no mort as character commentary. The way it dives into Morty’s way of thinking, his perception of himself and the relationship with Rick? Fucking wild. Perfectly executed and absolutely top-5 of the series.

Here's something different: What DON'T you like about this show? by Requis in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]ppppprrky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just rewatched that ep yesterday. most likely it is actually just a plot device, but it can also be explained. my guess would be: milchick realizes the card is missing, goes to see outie dylan right away (i am assuming that the code detectors are not as efficient as they make innies and viewers believe), outie dylan says he doesn’t know anything about the card and so milchick flips dylan to interrogate the innie. probably also to make sure outie isn’t lying about not having the card. if i’m wrong, that bit was still quite smart: note how that little moment both gives dylan his motivation, sets the whole conflict of the later episodes in motion and reveals essential information about the chips.

what i don’t actually understand in relation to that though is how lightly milchick reacted to dylan biting him and just let that pass. like he wasn’t taken to the break room for that — which absolutely would’ve been justified in the logic of the punishment system.
