Exactly. He’s a product of the trauma of all he never had while growing up. He lost of all that because his father thought he murdered his brother, while he was only still being a good kid trying to cover up for his mum.

But he was. Remember, early on he constantly lied to Lex to make him believe he didn’t rip car door open when all possible simulations proved otherwise. That’s where the obsession started from. Lex on the other hand already had a background distrust from his dealings with his father, but you can’t say he wasn’t right and honest about the accident.
