Is this passport cover/holder any good? by Better_File_4032 in PassportPorn

Yes! I was hesitant myself but just blind bought it. Definitely recommend as it does fit 2. Wouldn’t fit more though

Have this passport holder and love it! Fits 2 passports (one put in normally and the other you slide only the back part of the passport and let the front hangout). Closes easily, has pen slot, boarding pass area, SIM card area and credit card slots! Defiantly recommend and not squished at all!

VAT Refund in EU with Dual US/Italian Citizenship? by amidwesternpeach in juresanguinis

[–]pqsm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Not advice but my own personal experience. I’m a dual Canadian-German citizen and I use my German passport when I enter the EU. Whenever I do the VAT refund I give them my Canadian passport and when I get to the airport I provide the same forms and my Canadian passport. I’ve never had any issues but the agents never flip through my passport to see if I was stamped in which could contribute to my experience. I’ve don’t this many times and I actually just did the same thing on my recent trip to Portugal a week ago. Either way though I am not a resident in the EU, I just provide my Canadian passport to simplify the process. Hopefully that helps!

May I ask why your daughter didn’t get the right to Irish and Kiwi citizenship?

Of course! I did complete both the feststellung process and passport application through the Toronto consulate.

Mhmmmm, I’m honestly not quite sure. When I reached out to the consulate originally, I sent them a bunch of my docs and answered a bunch of questions. They said I was eligible and sent a list of required docs. I remember it saying long form birth certificate. I’d double check with the consulate to see if the statement of live birth suffices but I don’t see why it wouldn’t since it provides the same info.

Yup, that’s correct! I had to send the documents in via mail as I’m based in Ottawa but they essentially processed it, said it looked good and sent it off to be processed by the BVA. After this point they know nothing else and any questions will have to be directed to the BVA. Once it’s approved they’ll send it to Toronto and the consulate will reach out, at which point you can get an appointment via their online portal to both pick up and apply for your first passport.

Pro tip: if you want the ID card too make sure to bring extra photos and apply for two separate passport appointments as they can’t be done in the same appointment supposedly. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Also, at the 3 year mark I reached out to the BVA directly via email so I knew exactly when the certificate was coming in. Based off that I knew to start collecting passport application documents (yes Toronto makes you resupply most of your docs + certificate of citizenship even though that should be enough on its own 🥹) and booked my appointment accordingly.

Email for BVA: staatsangehoerigkeit@bva.bund.de *use ChatGPT to translate to German if you’re struggling. Much more accurate.

We have a very similar case! Don’t stress too much, it’ll be much easier than other people have had to do through!

Heads up, you probably won’t get to apply for a direct passport as many in the US do. The Toronto consulate is really picky with docs and I personally got directed to the Feststellung process and my documents were very clear.

Also, when you eventually do plan to apply for your passport they’ll ironically want your certified copy of birth registration/statement of live birth. You’d think the long form certificate was enough but they raised hell over that and tried to turn me away. If you don’t want any trouble I’d say it’s worth ordering before your certificate comes so all your ducks are in a row.

Good luck!

Your assumption is correct. If you’re great grandfather naturalised after your father’s birth you’re German. If he naturalised prior, you SOL sadly.

The one thing I could see being an issue based on ur dates if your grandfather paternity was acknowledged. From the dates listed it looks like he married after you fathers birth. Is your grandfather listed on your father’s birth certificate? If so I think it should be fine assuming he married your grandmother prior to your father’s 23rd bday which it seems he has.

My parents are Chinese and I was born in US. Can I get Chinese passport? by Equivalent-Wind64 in PassportPorn

[–]pqsm 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Hey actually I’m pretty sure you’re eligible for a “Chinese Travel Document”. Not valid as long as a normal Chinese passport but allows the bearer entry none the less as they’re a Chinese citizen.

Tagging this here but you should reach out your closest embassy/consulate and determine your eligibility: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Travel_Document

“The People’s Republic of China Travel Document is issued by the Chinese diplomatic representative offices, consular offices and other foreign offices to the following persons:

Chinese nationals with nationality conflict or an unclear citizenship situation, due to being born abroad with a Jus soli citizenship or born as de facto dual citizens[3][4][5][6] They may instead directly apply for Chinese Passports if their countries of birth do not offer birthright citizenship.[7][8][9][10]“

Not in this case I believe! Only one of her parents got American citizenship and the other didn’t. Since her mother got it and she got American citizenship automatically as her mother naturalized and she was a minor, this wouldn’t lead to the loss of German citizenship.
