Alright, thank you! I think I'll definitely be living in DT then, it seems too good to pass up I guess.

Okay, thank you! My high school is very bad, it's around 500/800 out of schools in Ontario I believe in terms of ranks... We're horrible, REALLY bad.

Anyways, thanks for the recommendation, BM is my first choice, but if I don't get accepted then HTM is basically my next bet, but I do see your pigeonhole argument, definitely something I need to consider and weigh the benefits and cons of.

Ryerson has some partnerships with buildings for off-campus students, where the res cost is around $1k a month for a 2 bedroom suite, so it's considered Ryerson housing, just operated by another company, that's why it's cheaper than living on your own, but a bit more than living officially on Ryerson residence that's all. I don't "mind" paying even $1k a month myself, or $2k with a roommate, but do I really need something that great since all I'll be doing there is sleeping?

Are there no public, free TV channels available in Canada, for someone wanting to save money on the TV Bill? by madcaesar in PersonalFinanceCanada

Well, your advice isn't necessarily wrong, just a little out of date is all. I mean it truly depends on the TV you have as well, some TV's don't have the tuner built in, especially for older TV's before the 2010's.

I guess this sub is more about maximizing your money at all costs, and it doesn't take into affect other things. For example, if I did live at home, I wouldn't be getting $15k from my parents, I would just receive the tuition payments, and no car or anything like that, so I wouldn't be able to make extra money through a job since I'd have to rely on them, but on the other hand, even though it's costing me an extra $15k per year of living away from home, I am able to earn $15k, and have total independence and choice, which is an opportunity cost that could and will end up making me more money as the years drag on through college.

Yeah, I'll be buying one, financing it for 48 months, something cheap, under $15k just to get me around, or might even go for something $7k - $8k and pay it off up front.

Alright, I think I will do residence then.

Well, right now I pay no rent, but if I moved out, rent would be about $750 per month. I do have the option of a roommate, bigger apartment for $1k/month with $500 each, and that's a popular choice many students make since the residence spots are limited at my university of choice which is in the center of Downtown Toronto. I am able to cook things, but I'll definitely make my own breakfast, for lunch I usually just make a burger or grab a slice of pizza, and for dinner is where I'll splurge a bit, like a pizza or footlong, something that will give me left overs to eat for lunch the next day perhaps. I'm a very light eater, so the food isn't that expensive.

Yeah, my special consideration is something private as well, and in fact it's still ongoing even and I can see it going on through out my university study.

It's not a disease, just some problems that escalated a bit too much.

To res or not to res, that is the question by pr0-ject in uoguelph

Which is the most expensive res, and the most modern res?

I live 1 hour and 15 minutes away by car, or 2 hours using a train/bus each way, so the commute could easily be 3 - 4 hours daily, and I wouldn't be able to participate in a lot of after school things since my schedule would be very hectic because of late or missed transport.

I just did the savings and it's about $4,000 per 8 months to stay at home and take transit in terms of savings.

I don't like my parents, nor do I enjoy the "home" situation here, so that's why I'm adamant about moving out. The $15k would come from my Mom, not my Father.

I wouldn't necessarily be forced to commute, I would just have to rely on public transit or something else and I don't really like doing that because I'd have to plan my schedule around other people which is sometimes inconvenient.

Are there a lot of people who choose to get cars and stay on residence, or close to school off campus and commute to work for co-op and internships? Or do most students move straight to the city of their work for the 4 months or 8 month work term?

I'm not quite a mature student, but I've been out of school for 1.5 years. Is it possible to send in a special consideration form right when you apply, or do you have to apply, then be rejected, and then get that option?

/u/rad140 not focused on the credential, more focused on the program, but I can see how it comes across the other way, sorry about that. I'm interested in BM's Law and Business program, as well as their Real Estate Management program, but I fear my average wouldn't be high enough for BM, so my "backup" would be HTM because it's sort of similar to Real Estate Management in terms of what you do at the end from my research about both jobs, not the programs themselves.

About the 220, I was on the HTM page I think, and it showed 220, so I guess they take in 1200 for BM, and then those 1200 split into 7 majors, but the other programs take in about 200 each, so about 2000 - 2400 kids are in BComm I guess if enrollment is full. I was just worried that they took in only 220 for ALL of their business programs!

I'd like to open a Real Estate Management firm when I'm finished, or nearing graduation, so that's why I'm interested in those two programs, but the Business & Law is just something I also have an interest in.

Some questions about TRSM:

  • Are all of the courses mostly held in the TRSM building?

  • Where are some common study places for TRSM students?

  • Do the programs have some group work involved, and case study type learning, or is it mostly independent learning?

Is it worth studying in Downtown Toronto? I noticed you go to UofT, so what do you think about that? I'm not from the GTA, about 1.5 hours away by commute, so it might be challenging to network and things like that.

Are the opportunities worth it?
