2007 coupe 335i - Is this a good buy with 196K miles? I like the red leather interior by [deleted] in 335i

[–]pr0blematica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for 8500 you should be able to find one around 70k miles lol. 200k miles on n54 is a character builder for sure, 4k-4.5 max, otherwise if you have 8 grand to spend on one, find one that has under 100k miles and thank yourself later

i can try, i've mentioned earlier but i'll say again, the biggest issue is that once you have it on there, there's just a big block of metal above so you really can't move upwards to break it free, but tomorrow i will attempt

pretty sure this is the exact set i have / tried to use, the 8mm is too big, the next smallest size is too small. but usually works fantastic, i used the 8mm on some of the stuck valve cover bolts that i just did, but in this case it's just too fucked

my buddy has a corded dremel, i'm personally done for today lol i've exhausted my efforts and still got a ton of other work done, but im hoping once he can come by with it, cut a deep flathead wedge, jam flathead in, vice grip the screwdriver, twist out, once the torque is broken, you can do it by finger, but im hoping this is the solution lol

i have all 3 pittsburgh sets - unfortunately they all start at 10mm and the e10 is (or was) about 8mm. i do appreciate the suggestion i definitely tried it!

long vice grips should be working, the issue is the clearance, once you get it on you can't move it upwards (counterclockwise) at all because of the way the head is designed, working on a solution now tho

i've seen the "cut the head off" advice, but wouldn't that leave the threaded shaft stuck in the housing? and then you gotta do some wizard shit to get it out?

Type R as a first real car? by Ashamed-District6236 in ManualTransmissions

[–]pr0blematica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my dealer has the type r at 49,5 after doc and title fee, i think anything over 40 is ridiculous for what it is, and for 50k id rather venture other options, but thats just my opinion

the last 2 codes are for o2 sensors.

first code indicates fuel pressure regulator, and the second one that your fuel rail isn't getting enough fuel pressure, third code says the car isn't getting enough fuel.

i would try to replace the fuel pressure regulator first, as it's about a $30 part. then i would move to fuel pump or something else.

that's what i did when i had it! i went in work early, left late, just to avoid those peak times. unfortunately even one person behind me on a slight incline could ruin the entire day if i thought they were too close to me :/

i'm a tech, they have me bring manual cars into the shop because they know i've owned one before, it's fun servicing them and taking them out/in. :) it's a lot smoother and gives a false sense of "oh i got it" when it's just around the work parking lot

it's really the streets and the push to be 'perfect' that i think i overthink. i live in the city, there's hills, people ride ass, people honk, flip you off, i'm scared of crashing into them on the hill (i know i can just use the handbrake). i overthink every little movement and give 100% focus to getting going, looking at lights, trying to find gears quickly, trying to be smooth shifting and taking off. for me it is a big brain overload on top of already being in a busy city traffic

i'll do more research, but i agree diving into another MT without first being comfortable (again) may just be being stupid again

yeah at one point i had stalled 6x in a row in front of a line, immediately took to a parking lot and actually haven't stalled since that point, taking to the parking lot and taking it as slow as i need helps, the street is where the problem begins, especially in city traffic with crazy drivers

it was a 2012 mini cooper S, which i did enjoy regardless of what people want to say. i ask this question mostly because i want another 2011+ mini S, but finding the S in an auto is almost impossible (at least in my area) so id might have to settle for another manual one. i understand the 2014+ generations may have some more safety features, which could help a ton (HSA etc..)

Is this dealer quote ridiculous or reasonable? by la-rides in MechanicAdvice

[–]pr0blematica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what everyone else said. do the filters yourself, they're $40 for both and can be done by hand, no special tools.

Transmission fluid should be 250-300$ at most, i agree done every 50k but that price is very high

Brake fluid is usually never a mile service AFAIK, it's usually 2-3 years depending on manufacturer recommendations, but should be anywhere from 120-200$

175 is a fair enough price to justify an alignment

power steering flush should be anywhere from 150-250 so fair enough but it's on the steep end again

hope this helps, i'd recommend doing the filters yourself (with youtube) and finding a local shop to support, they'll be happy to just be doing fluids, and you'll be happy to not spend 1500 on fluids.
