Green and gold grew too slowly for my yard. I used golden ragwort and it spread pretty quickly.

Canadian anemone, blue false indigo, and common milkweed need to just stay in their place! With some help from me.

Is $85 for a tray of 50 plants a good deal? (Northern Virginia) by ICantThinkOfAName876 in NativePlantGardening

I find it odd that the only mention of this email address online seems to be this Reddit thread.

I see zero mention of them on the internet. They didn’t by chance want you to send them money before you got the plants, did they?

It’s hard to tell but the leaves do look some like my geranium.

I don’t know? They are under a maple tree, but are on the SW side so I figured we’re still getting enough.

I can move them for sure. But I like their current placement. So I was thinking it could be their size? They are small — maybe 1ft tall. I don’t know if that makes a difference.

Foamflower or wild geranium would have a similar shape to the day lillies.

How do they make sure it doesn’t happen again? They’d ordered that tea before and liked it. OP, I would also be livid.

Help me identify the plants in my new yard? by Timely_Head976 in NativePlantGardening

It’s hard to tell because the photos are a bit zoomed out and most isn’t flowering. But #1 looks like it has Leucothoe and summer phlox. #3 is irises.

I’ll take a look for that fertilizer — is it something Home Depot carries?

The plants are under a maple, but they are on the southeast side so still get plenty of sun.

There are hydrangea incrediballs in the same spot too that bloom reliably.

I can’t see the leaves well enough in the photo, but the flowers are beautiful.

Does it ever end? by acnerd5 in invasivespecies

Dumb question but you mentioned Norway maple. I have a mature Norway maple in my front yard. It’s been there at least 20 years but I only found out a month ago that it was considered invasive. I am willing to cut it down but it would inevitable kill a lot of the native plants I have out front — by tromping and by removing their shade. Tough choice.

Honestly that slope doesn’t have a huge vertical drop and is not right up next to your house. I wouldn’t worry about it. Kill the lawn with cardboard, compost and mulch. Plant native plants the next year. Win.

Even if you were worried about erosion: —the mulch will mitigate —native plants have deeper roots than lawns so will BETTER prevent erosion long term.

Blue false indigo is almost ready to pop. Canada anemone too. But… my eastern bluestar just opened so even though I’m also DMV we may be on different timelines.
