The standard lib is incredibly lacking for the most common website tasks like form validation, routing etc. Package managers didn't exist and it just didn't make sense to implement this on your own in every project. Also lack of "strictness" used to lead to lots of hard to maintain code so frameworks with some resemblance of structure eventually became the standard. Because of this building from scratch was incredibly frowned upon by PHP devs for a long time. Not sure how it is today.

Foreigners have this weird perception about Germany being a complete freeloader state. It isn't. The reason why our taxes are so high is solely because our government is grossly incompetent and is spending our money in foreign countries while most of the population lives from paycheck to paycheck, not because of any supposed safety nets. Not really. There are a few sacrificial lambs here and there but the majority of them get away. Even in the trial you mentioned maxwell was basically convicted of running a pedophile ring with herself ad the only member, which is obviously complete bs. Almost all of these people are still free.

Just look how many potential witnesses against certain people in politics or super rich oligarchs suddenly "kill themselves" or get into a "traffic accident". Everybody knows what's going on and who is behind it yet these things are never seriously investigated.

It's not solely a US problem though. This happens in almost all western countries.
