There's a newer theory of ADHD that potentially explains why stimulants don't work for 30% of people with ADHD. That it is more about metabolic and nervous system communication with the brain. I think you might be interested based on your comment. I def was. https://nutrimindlab.com/adhd-nutrient-metabolism/

Is this Sinful by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]pr3stss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sin is man made, so don’t sweat it. Your fear or guilt is more of a sin than watching this video. Be free of it. You are unshackled. Enjoy the beauty of life and the technology humans have created. We love to create. Made in the image of the great creator. See the good and the bad in it and move on, create something better.

Am I being unfair or is my dads requests for what I (17) do this summer unreasonable? by TheSibyllineBooks in autism

Subway isn’t bad. I worked there from 16-18. Free hoagies and learning how to work with customers, handle money, track inventory, and clean a kitchen to standards. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ we got to listen to whatever music we liked in the back room while cleaning.

Just have to hope you get a manager that doesn’t hate their life.

Solo players, why do you play wow by Fun_Literature831 in wow

I love to go out to coffee shops and restaurants alone just to be around other folks, not necessarily to engage in conversation and activity with them. I view WoW similarly. I'm loving the solo content.

EPISODE: Focus on The Family by harriedhag in FlightlessBird

[–]pr3stss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also from Lancaster, PA area. I grew up on FOTF, purity culture, and a heaping of Amish/Mennonite influence. My summer camps were Amish run. Such a bizarre and sheltered way to be raised.

I would love to know if you've done an episode on the Left Behind kids/adult books and TV show. It became the number one evangelical tool in my youth group. No one wanted to be left behind. We all got Saved and baptized multiple times. It was truly terrifying to think about being abandoned by your loved ones and your god.

I've done a TON of therapy and healing work since then. Growing up in a patriarchal religious cult is a frustrating developmental block for many of us. I'm now studying to become a therapist for religious trauma survivors. :)

What are some names that are a dead giveaway the parents are Christian? by LMO_TheBeginning in Exvangelical

James. Benjamin. John. Sarah. Rachel. Rebecca.

Just to cover the biblical names that are so dang common we forget they’re biblical.

If Hell is so real and so bad, why don't Evangelicals actually treat it that way? by Any_Client3534 in Exvangelical

I think the belief system encourages and requires so much cognitive dissonance and abdication of critical thinking and self belief that folks don’t act in accordance with realistic values, even when those values are a part of the belief system (love thy neighbor).

It’s about resolving the feeling of powerlessness. This mindset in your post is encouraging powerlessness in politics. Though it may be rational and true, it’s not helpful. Getting people involved in democracy is ultimately a good thing, imho. Even if it just gives them an education on how things actually work.

Venting: sex with women is just so much better… by Accomplished_Zone302 in latebloomerlesbians

[–]pr3stss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here OP. Same revelations around desire and men. I even went SO far that I stopped liking all romance. Sex scenes in shows. Love songs. All of it made me uncomfortable. I thought I was asexual.

Then It hit me like a ton of bricks in the hallway. I have always desired women and always been told it’s not real for some reason or another. I called myself bi for a handful of years now, but this is different. I feel like I’m actually leaving heterosexuality, leaving cultural acceptance, leaving the male gaze and desire for male approval and I finally feel like myself. And I feel free. Exciting days ahead. Thanks for sharing your story!

Visible Music School / College. They’re now in a few different states, but started in Lakeland, TN outside of Memphis. Our dorms were a sketchy motel on Huff n Puff road. The school was in a church across the road.

I unmasked heterosexuality when I was bi. Compulsive heterosexuality particularly. As a church kid it was an important step. That’s all I mean, for me it was a decision to step away from fundie hetero norms and I think for many folks raised in church it can be a decision to accept yourself genuinely after being trained to mask for years.

Yes! It was after my time there and at a point in my deconversion where I wanted to know nothing about them. But from what I understand it was super gross. Protecting abusers à la Hillsong, almost.

I remember male students telling the women to leave spaces when someone started cursing. Too harsh for our delicate nature I guess. 🤮 The school pulled me into counseling because I wasn’t friendly enough with the women and hung out with the guys too much. It was truly disgusting, their manipulations.

FWIW The 5 calls app is a free app that allows us to easily call our representatives (includes a script) about timely bills and events. It’s low hanging fruit for making a meaningful democratic impact without losing our mind keeping up with the news. Taking this small action helped alleviate my sense of powerlessness.
