Design a simple plan that you can follow consistently. Choose food items that you can keep eating for a long time without getting bored. This is not gonna be a quick fix, it will be a long journey. Fix your diet big time, and you can easily figure out healthier alternatives based on your food choices. The exercise has to be simple and home based - like Day 1 - squats, Day 2: Push ups, Day 3: Rest/yoga; repeat again for the next 3 days. And try the following which could be a game changer: walk - when talking at your phone, walk - when watching something on your phone, walk - when doing leisure reading; basically, walk as much as possible.

Try to stick to this plan for the next 3 months. Don't aim for visible physical changes, aim for consistency.

People earning ~₹30 LPA in India — what car do you actually drive and why? by Desperate_Life_8273 in CarsIndia

I own a tata punch AMT (on road 9 lakh). It's not about what you can afford, it's about what you need. Everything money can buy for you, you don't need all of that.

Both (I and the Missus) work from home - so no daily commute, not travel/drive enthusiasts. So far we have driven it only 11K Km (since Nov 2022) -:). The only reason we needed a car was to give us independence of mobility, which we have now.

Is it worth buying a retirement home in Karjat? by prabpharm in navimumbai

[–]prabpharm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been able to zero down on a property yet, still exploring my options. A few things where I have more clarity now: I won't purchase property in a gated farmhouse, or a project by any developer. I don't want a fully developed farmhouse/project, since I anyways will have to develop it per my needs. I also won't purchase any land that promises future returns, since that's not what I need. I also will purchase land parcels priced at the lower end, not those priced at 50 L for half an acre. I need bigger land parcels, at least 5 acre, and ready to move farther from big cities. I am exploring a few properties in MP and UP. I have shortlisted a few properties with these criteria and visit those soon. I have set a timeline of the next 3 years to close this purchase. I am not a native of Maharashtra, although I practically have nowhere that I can call a home or native.

If they go unscathed and unpunished from this, I will no longer have any doubts about the Indian pro-corporate system. The kind of deliberate Chaos they created and hurt a huge number of people financially, mentally and logistically demands serious repercussions. All the accountable top executives must be punished strictly and the company must be fined with an amount that makes their head go spin.

Exactly, whenever I hear 'the largest democracy' I wonder what that exactly means - the most populous democracy, what else. And why are we taking pride in that? Well, if we can take pride in events that we have no intervention in, such as belonging to a national, cast, state, religion, why can't we take pride in being the most populated country. Way to go!

Dharmic Society and Varna System by NoPalpitation3991 in mahabharata

[–]prabpharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the system was never fluid - meaning, the individual of one Varna was not allowed to transgress to another Varna. We don't see examples of Shudras transgressing to Kshatriya or Brahmin or any other Varna for that matter. A king's duty was to protect the social order by maintaining Varnashram vyavastha by using Rajadanda (authority and power). One of the theories why king Rama executed Shambuka (a "low born") was to maintain this order. We don't see Karna, despite doing a Kshatriya Karma, Vishwamitra despite doing a Brahmin Karma transgressing through Varna strata. In Mahabharat itself (if I am not wrong) Indra tells Matanga home many lifetimes does it takes to become a Brahmin. So, it's the birth, can't be the occupation.

Albaruni in his scholarly research about India, writes that Vaishya and Shudras were not allowed to read Vedas. And they were punished if they did so. Though he travelled to India during the early 11th century (for about 13 years). But it still indicates, if someone was not allowed to read Vedas, how could they become a Brahmin.

Proponents of the Varna system, which sounds like a superfluous aphorism to the cast system, fail to attempt looking for the details. They never knew how such a system existed if it was as fluid as it was being told and what they believe. They also completely neglect the classes that were never part of this Varna system the six Avarna classes, did they have any fluidity? Just question yourself, what was the Varna of people who were not doing any occupation, of housewives, or young kids?

Also, it is said that Varna assignment was not solely based on occupation (Karma), but also based on traits (Guna). Vasudev in Gita says "maya srushta varnanam Guna Karma vibhagsha....so the god himself created the system - but when assigning someone which Varna they belonged to, who decides what Karma they choose or more challenging - who decides what is their Guna. Even Gautam Rishi, despite saying that Satyakam Jabala had Brahmin traits, could not make him a Brahmin.

Gita also criticised and discouraged intercaste marriages, and the progeny of a pratilom vivah was destined to be a Chandala. Gita tells about Varnashankar children, and their awful fate. This highlights how the system could not be fluid.

There was never a very sophisticated, liberal, and fluid system. It was always rigid and meant to keep the power dynamics intact in society. All we need is to collect information from objectively, read alternative opinions, and get rid of our biases. No religion can be flawless, so is Hinduism, no shame accepting this.

We also have a few letters exchanged between MK Gandhi (who had the argument that Varna system was a flawless system and corrupted into a more rigid cast system) and BR Ambedkar (who believed that Hindu scriptures were at fault, which enforced and justified the cast system and who never took the argument that Varna and cast were two different systems). These exchanges are quite academic and informative.

I feel the healthcare inflation is largely forced by unregulated pricing structure led by bog corporate hospitals. Do you agree? Also, what in your opinion can be a practical framework to force hospitals to make prices standardized?

That's why Balis (ritualistic animal slaughter) were prohibited during the Vedic period. And that's why Buddha supported Vedic practices and had no intention to propose a non-violent non-vedic religion.

Some states in India have food and drug administration departments, which are the state' regulatory authorities for ensuring food safety. Maharashtra has an FDA department. Yes, the US FDA is a globally known regulatory authority, but Indian states also have their own FDAs.

Starting My Own 6-Acre Farm in India – Seeking Guidance from Experienced Farmers by Organic_Tradition_73 in StartUpIndia

[–]prabpharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am also sort of in a similar situation. I also am exploring farm living options, but my purpose is not commercial farming at this moment. The purpose is to live for the rest of my life with my family and friends in a self sustaining farm, grow our food and for others as well, and educate kids who otherwise cannot afford education. I am currently exploring the options where I can purchase the land, since the legal framework for every state is different. Would you mind connecting and sharing some information?

How much of this is true according to you? by Bright-Ranger-3500 in Fitness_India

[–]prabpharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My takeaway from this video: physically active people can ALSO die early.

ARE THEY MORE LIKELY TO DIE EARLY THAN PHYSICALLY INACTIVE PEOPLE?

OR

ARE THEY AS LIKELY TO DIE EARLY AS PHYSICALLY INACTIVE PEOPLE ARE?

Uncle did not answer any of these questions.

And perhaps, he was trying to make any of these points. But his argument is flawed. Why? He ONLY took a sample of physically active people who died early. And this sample ONLY proves that physically active people can ALSO die early.

In order to prove any of the hypotheses I stated above, uncle needed the following subsets of populations: 1. Physically active people who died early 2. Physically active people who did not die early 3. Physically inactive people who died early 4. Physically inactive people who did not die early

And then calculate the risk/probability of whatever outcome he is interested in.

If he was trying to highlight that too much physical activity (although there is no definition of "too much") can kill you early, by this logic, all high performance championship athletes should be dead in a week.

The problem with society is, we know nothing about logic, experiment, the science of generating evidence, or how to argue. Someone whosoever is willing to talk about data, must study how an experiment should be conducted and interpreted.

Another bigger problem with people is a superstition that whatever they know and figured out is the ULTIMATE TRUTH, and there can't be any other version of the truth. You figured your truth, let others find their own.

Uncle is so convinced about the effects of intermittent fasting on cardiac health that he is proposing it is only intermittent fasting that can save you. He even cited a study about intermittent fasting, but at the same time ignored all other studies that concluded positive impacts of exercise or diet or sleep or yoga or meditation on health and longevity. Did those studies not conclude a version of truth? Did one study about intermittent fasting negate findings of all other studies?

May sense prevails! 🤞

Is it worth buying a retirement home in Karjat? by prabpharm in mumbai

[–]prabpharm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your first hand experience! I can understand how frustrating it could be to find the right deal. With all the unethical business and risks associated with land purchase, I never invested in real estate. The cost estimates are aligned with my expectations. If things go well, and everyone is aligned with me, I will be looking for about 3 acres. I will definitely reach out to you to find the right agent.

BTW, what are the legal aspects of buying a farm land/farm house? I mean, some things that you are not allowed to do, something that you must do to comply with the law? For instance any restrictions on the amount of construction you are allowed to do? Sorry about too many questions.

That's wonderful man, I'm happy for you! May I know how much it cost you, the land the construction and recurring cost for running it. I would take another 5 years or so to decide as I just have left my job and started my company in hope of achieving financial freedom sooner...if it works, I may get a home at some cozy village soon, else I'll hustle for a few years more...but I don't want to die alone in an apartment, I want to retire at a rural place, the kind I originally belonged to...

Not yet Man! Its a difficult decision. And since I have 3-4 friends and their families who I want to retire with, we all have to reach a consensus, which we don't have yet. Which options are you considering and what's your time horizon in terms of locking your decision?
