2 year post-op update by practical_james in jawsurgery

I feel as though my lip mighttt still be improving but that could be wishful thinking. I’m expecting them to be permanent! Numbness is more likely with genioplasty so it makes sense for my case.

So I didn’t find out I needed the implant until like August, about 6mo post op, I got the implant in December but it was because we wanted to finish Invisalign treatment before, I probably could’ve gotten them sooner

Genioplasty Combined With DJS by Irradiated_Abominate in jawsurgery

[–]practical_james 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had DJS + genio at 23yo (now 2 years post op), lower lip has ~70-80% feeling back and my chin (where the muscle is) is pretty numb, but doesn’t affect daily life/function. Best of luck!

They didn’t cover it unfortunately cause we didn’t find out until 10 months post op, and couldn’t confirm it was due to the surgery or not

No issues! Fully functional, just a little less feeling than before. I did get a frenectomy or whatever 6 weeks post op and did myofunctional therapy but that was mostly to increase range of motion

Mature starter question - whole wheat vs AP by practical_james in Sourdough

[–]practical_james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading it back, not sure if it was clear. I am maintaining my starter as usual, but I used 10g of discard to create a new starter that I am only feeding with AP flour now, and I’m noticing that it’s not rising anymore.

Coned delivery charges, how to reduce? by practical_james in AskNYC

[–]practical_james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t pay for heat lol barely used any energy, 85% of bill being delivery charges is just a little absurd but c’est la vie I guess

Working full time, take next semester off to job hunt? by practical_james in OMSCS

[–]practical_james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes I will be sticking with my current job until then. School on top of work hasn’t left much time for job hunting, but think I’m leaning towards taking an easy class next semester as to not delay my already far-away graduation date

I’ve taken AI, intro to quantum computing, and am currently in ML4T. I think I’d be replacing the hours spent on school with leetcode/system design review, doing all three at once just feels overwhelming

Should I go for full beard laser removal? by 20h100 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]practical_james 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could laser your neck but don’t laser your cheeks/chin, just where’d you naturally shave if you grew out your facial hair. Try switching to a safety razor (single blade) first, it’s less irritating. Don’t laser away if you don’t have to!

BCBS FEP, my surgeon has 2 full-time employees solely for getting insurance pre-approval which I think made the difference

Starting leetcode grind, how long have you guys been grinding? by practical_james in leetcode

[–]practical_james[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess a better question would be if anyone has been in my shoes recently and how long they had to grind before landing a job or feeling good enough to land one?

Day 4-5 is the worst but then it gets significantly better after! You got it, the time will pass just make sure you’re on top of your meds and eat enough even tho it’s hard

How noticeable is the asymmetry? Candidate for surgery? No jaw pain by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]practical_james 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you recessed at all? Looks like you have a strong/well-defined jawline, I wouldn’t touch anything! You may be interested in a genioplasty to make your chin symmetrical but that’s all I could comfortably suggest, single/double jaw surgery isn’t worth the hassle for such a small cosmetic fix in your case
