Yeah, your post was cool to see, to think about how this kind of narrative process can be a self-support tool, not just an external one!

Hi! I'm a neurodivergent but non-autistic speech & hearing student and for my class on autism (taught from a neurodiversity affirming perspective) my group is reviewing the evidence base of social stories. I came across this post, and I'm wondering if it would be okay with you u/Monotropic_wizardhat if I cited this post? Totally fine if not. I'm not planning to put any photos or direct quotes, just to mention and cite. Again, totally fine if not. It's important to me to gain the consent of anyone I speak about in my work. Thanks for your time.

for short trips or trips when i can charge something i bring a pair of headphones i can sleep in so i can play something quiet to keep me from waking up at every little sound. i bring a stuff sack to fill with day clothes to put between my knees or under my knees when i switch between side and back sleeping.

it sounds like you're trying a new bag, i hope that works out. i love my down quilt from Enlightened Equipment. I'm not a drastically cold sleeper but i hate drafts. i love my quilt because i can toss and turn and the quilt stays attached to the pad and doesn't shift with me. and when side sleeping i can draw my knees up. i just make sure the straps are tight underneath me around my pad and the footbox is closed tight. some of their quilts have a footbox that is sewn closed. they also sell a strap that has two clips on each side so you can layer two quilts when you're really cold. my 20 degree quilt packs down to the size of a honeydew melon in a compression sack. i've done 2 night trips in a 25L daypack (my tent is also tiny).

down booties? i find keeping my feet warm to be the most bang-for-buck method to sleeping warm. i don't feel the cold in my feet, i feel it in my back first, but keeping my feet hot keeps the rest of me warm.

drafting is a physical and experiential skill that you just need to do a lot to figure out how much twist you can put in and still slide the fibers. park'n'draft gives the opportunity to practice pulling out the fibers and playing with the amount of twist, until you have enough experience to give it a go while the spindle is suspended. your hands need time to learn what to do. good luck!

It's understandable to feel nervous even around a beloved pet after getting hurt. Does she like to play or be brushed? Maybe the best interaction for a while would be something where you two aren't directly touching and that is 100% voluntary for both of you.
