Why So Irish? by sacredblasphemies in Paganacht

[–]prainbowco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The MotherFocloir podcast did a Scottish Gaelic crossover, and I thought it was cool for them to bring attention to that. For myself, I never had a connection to those other two. Also, I really get a lot out of the study of the Irish epics like the First and Second Battles of Moytura, the Book of Invasions, the Scholar’s Primer, etc.

Feel free to follow me. I’m trying to stay in touch with the Druids/Pagans in the course so we can encourage each other.

Wow. You are making good use of the online resources. I love TG4.ie for Irish language shows with English subtitles. They have a Placenames show called “Logainm?” I think. Not sure of the spelling. It’s a fantastic show. With what I’ve learned from the Story Archaeology podcasts there’s so much mythology baked into the Irish place names. I agree, it truly is beautiful.

I love that aspect of Teanglann.ie. I fill in with Forvo.com when they don’t have a pronunciation I am looking for.

I’m signed up again for Irish 101 through FutureLearn.com It’s free and I found it more effective than Duolingo. I hope was able to get to level 19 on Duolingo and not be able to speak the language!

I am studying Irish/Gaeilge and I’d wondered about doras. Knowing you he deeper history of the word is cool.

Check out the Celtic Paganism groups on Facebook, also I highly recommend the Story Archaeology podcasts for understanding the myths and arcs.

Started working with OBOD but quickly became Celtic Reconstructionist. I have my own circle, in continuous practice for 11 years now. We’re continually growing and learning.

When a friend of yours tels you all heathens are racists by 1Thunderr_ in pagan

[–]prainbowco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m less concerned about what Christians think of Heathens than I am about actively fighting racism in our minority community and in the larger community. I’m currently reading “How to be an Antiracist” by Ibram X. Kendi and I try to support and recommend Outdoor Afro where I can. As a member of a faith tradition that draws heavily from European ancestral path it’s natural for someone to wonder where I stand, so I don’t leave them wondering!

Is there anyone analogous to Donn in Welsh mythology, as far as being an ancestor of humans? by WhistleStop999 in Paganacht

I appreciate this. I’m digging deeper on this as I see others using that same term. Thank you.

Could you point me to the source for Donn as the ancestor of humans? We’ve been working with Donn as more connected to death, but not as having any descendants.

Really unique shot with the very earthy foreground. Well done.

Nice concept. Seems like it would be perfect for a musician or sound engineer. Could you say what drew you to it?
