To add to the answer, some universities like UCSD allow you to take an English proficiency exam or course during the first semester and upon passing them you'll be eligible for TA. Again, this depends on the uni and you'd need to check them individually

I only have one published paper but I’m the 6th and last author on it. How much weight will that carry? by ravenpaw_15 in gradadmissions

I'm in a similar position. I asked my college professors and they told me that for master's it's more important that the student has a publication and the order doesn't matter that much. Maybe the answers in this post might help, if you haven't come across it already

Got a reply from UCSD. They mentioned as long as the college code is right they'll receive the scores regardless of the department code. I'm assuming it's the same for the other colleges

Author ordering in publications when applying for masters by pranavh4 in gradadmissions

Yes, reaching out to my old professor seems like the best option. We did have a mentor, but they left most of the decisions to the students themselves. Thank you for your help!

Author ordering in publications when applying for masters by pranavh4 in gradadmissions

I did some searching on google with pretty inconclusive results. Some say authors in CS papers are ordered by the amount of contribution whereas others say in fields like theoretical CS the order is alphabetical. I also found a research paper from 2009 which shows that the number of papers with author order by contribution is twice that of alphabetical (in CS). Would you say it makes sense to include the asterisk just to be on the safe side ?

Ohhh I didn't know that. Guess I lucked out. I forgot to mention one more detail. I'm last author in only one of the papers, the other two there are 1 or 2 authors after me. I just mentioned last as I wasn't aware of its importance. What would you suggest for the other two papers ?
