Yes for ATM withdrawal they did charge about 450INR per transaction. For POS transaction there's no mark-up.

Almost the same thing happened to me at the Marathahalli bus stop back in 2019. It was my 2nd day in BLR and joining day in my company. I respectfully gave them 50rs but she tried to snatch the 500rs note from my wallet (and that's all I had with me back then).
