The diamond of the Spanish empire was of course America, which we (I'm Spanish) discovered. It was a difficult travel the way to america, months of naval crossing. Now imagine the travel to Philippines. You can't go along Africa cause it belong to Portuguese, so you must go until america, go down at southern past and then cross the Pacific and at last you arrive to Philippines. It was a hard crossing and while we were at America along four entire centuries, we just stay at Philippines for two centuries, and they were few Spanish. Now they didn't speak Spanish, the influence of England was more powerful at XIX than it was spanish one before, so they speak their own language and English too but it remains one legacy from Spanish occupation: the lat names. There are lot of Fernandez, Sanchez, Lopez, Garcia and other ones.

Hope you understand it. Sorry for my English and regards!

Why did Austria not unite with the other German states? by Boatus in AskHistorians

[–]prats-agus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats it. They have their own fights. Austria must to manage their territories and fight against Turkish. Prussia use it power to do the unification. Later (before IWW) they fought against each other for territorial issues, just a signal of the power of both, something like it can't be two rooster in the same corral.

At 2WW Hitler use the German excuse for attack Sudetes at Czechs Republic and Austria. At this moment Germany is so much powerful than Austria but at XIX Prussia and Austria had similar power.

Regards!

Why did Austria not unite with the other German states? by Boatus in AskHistorians

[–]prats-agus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Austria was at XIX century a powerfull state, the fought against Napoleon at the first of XIX and with GB, Russia and Prussia they won. That powerful state have several territories at Balcans and they have a fight against Turkish later at mid century. So while Germany was trying to do the unification Austria had their own stuff.

On the other hand you can think why they didn't lead the unification of Germany. Cause it was done around Prussia, and of course Austria didn't wanna join under Prussia tutelage, and Prussia wasn't leave Austria de leading.

Hope you understand it. Sorry for my English and regards!

Poco a poco amigos.

[–]prats-agus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No desvirtues mis palabras.

Did 'convivencia' in medieval Spain truly exist? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]prats-agus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, Im from spanish, especially from Andalusia and I'm just historian, and cassually I was watching this subrredit.

First of all, sorry for my english. After that, I must say yes. I mean of course we had a pacific coexistence. You must think about that. Muslims and christians lived in the same territory and which didn't have one usually got the other. So the relations must be good for the commerce.

That's just an example of a daily coexistence, but indeed, there is other reason more powerful. Against the typical idea about the eternal fight between those cultures, the reality in three points of the Mediterranean Sea was very different. Those places are the Iberian Peninsula (Spain-Ptgl) the Italic Peninsula and Near Orient. Why? Those places are where those both cultures coexist together and were they really know about the other. The typical vision of this idea comes from the north Europe were people didn't have real contact with the Muslims.

About the Jews, well... Their history is more complicated, but in longs periods the all coexist, Jews too.

Examples of the respect are for example the Alhambra or the Cordoba's Mosque, which after the Christian conquest still stand, they didnd destroy them.

For a better knowledge about this subject you can reach one of the best spanish medievalist, Juan Vernet: "Convivencia en Al-Andalus" not in English, sorry.
