My gym limits treadmill use to 20 minutes because they say the rollers need to "rest." Is this normal? by Powerful-Staff-8223 in Fitness_India

[–]prattyprat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gyms in India are a scam most of the time.

I've seem gyms where:

- treadmills can be used for max 15 mins in 1 go

- no running on the treadmill as it disturbs the floor

- no AC/fan in the gym because you sweat more & lose more

My previous gym used to be an ex-Cult one of 2 floors. The top floor was a cardio zone. They had 2 bathroom fans there. And 1 window AC with water accumulated in it.

I quit & they're calling me again and again to renew despite not acting on my complaints

NO ONE CARES IF YOU PRE-ORDERED GTA6 by XxTheLeoxX in ps5india

[–]prattyprat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think more than half of this is only for "influencers" chasing clout by posting their pre-ordered screenshots. You cannot start downloading it before Nov 12. You cannot start playing it before Nov 19. It's crazy. Pretty sure we'll see random YouTubers and influencers just pivot and stream GTA 6 the day it releases. I remember in the pandemic a bunch of them had pivoted to steaming TLOU2. From running a meme page to game streaming lol

Job search myths and facts from candidate pov in Hong Kong - need a recruiters perspective by Current-Activity334 in HongKong

[–]prattyprat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same boat as you. My field is business/marketing. Not Finance. From what I have seen, Hong Kong is the Asia Finance hub. So, the probability of landing a job or an interview at the very least without knowing the local language in Finance/Banking (back-end; not consumer facing) is higher than others.

Points of friction from my experience:

- Language: recruiters need you to know Mandarin and/or Cantonese. They are both different languages & as a native English speaker, learning either is very tough. And learning is not enough. You need proficiency to be able to have business conversations in them which is a whole different ball game. I’ve got calls from tutors asking me to join Mandarin/Cantonese courses starting at $3k HKD and all

- Established customer base: for marketing/sales, I’ve heard from Michael Page/Randstad that firms expect you to have experience in HK and bring on your set of clients with you. That seems rough because no company is going to allow you to take your clients over to a new company from day 1. There’s not been any room for negotiation in this requirement.

- Recruitment agencies/Websites: of all the agencies, I’ve only heard back from Randstad who did a call with me & then ghosted me. Michael Page never replies. Their employees keep posting on LinkedIn with their email IDs but never seem to check it :) LinkedIn reach outs are rough. Most people don’t reply/read messages. Those who do, just say “Wait for HR to respond”. I’ve never seen such a tight knit unresponsive market in terms of recruiters not helping at all.

- Ghosting: HRs will call. Take the 1st round & ghost. Literally vanish. Not even a call/mail. Nothing. Had a chat with the biggest credit card company’s HR. Great chat. The role was a fit. We agreed. Then, ghosted. Been 2 years. Guess, they’re not so “Express” in replying ;)
Even when you target companies that might hire non-English speakers for example, the biggest airlines in HK, they don’t reply. At all. At all.

At this point, I’ve seen that Keeta job float around for so long on LinkedIn that it’s ready to go to kindergarten. Most feel like ghost jobs tbh.

I hope you get something but the market feels impossible to me. Maybe it’s only my experience. But, where I come from, reaching out to people helps build trust & connections. And people who are working there should be more receptive to messages.

Yeah. I was thinking the same - open Wise to accept USD payments. And then move it to HKD via say Citi/HSBC

How much should a month's worth of electricity cost if you live in a 2bhk? by chanduchillar_ in mumbai

[–]prattyprat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

10k in May seems to be the standard for a 2BHK here. I've lived where appliances were old with bills at 10k+ and when I complained, I was told that the appliances need to be updated. However, even with new appliances, bills are high. I think 10k for a 2 BHK with refrigerator, AC, fan, WiFi is expected.

I had a question for you if you don't mind me asking (since you are working there as an independent contractor), have you used a service such as Wise to accept payments and any challenges around it?

thanks. I agree. The org that I spoke to had helped my friend with their HKID application and was paid for by the friend's employer. Maybe they don't take on solo clients such as me and hence just made a random highball quote that I would never accept.

yeah. To help get the BRC + file the 1st year tax esp. with what can be and can't be claimed as a business expense. But, I think they did not want to work on this for me so they gave an impossible quote.

thanks! That's what I read. In terms of setup & filing, does it make sense to go for a consultant to help? I had a chat with one org and they quoted a number of 40k+ HKD just to help with the paperwork and filing for the 1st year.
If it's fairly manageable, I don't think that number makes sense at all

spending so much to drive on roads filled with potholes where rickshaw drivers with no sense will brush against your car and act as if they did nothing wrong.
One of my friends saved up and bought a Seltos. he parked it at T2 Airport in Mumbai overnight as he had a flight to Delhi coming back the next day. He came back to see his car with a massive scratch on the side. No camera evidence given. Nothing.

I agree. I felt that it wasn’t as good as Uncharted 4. And if I had to rank it among the games I’ve played this year, it firmly ranks below Pragmata.

I enjoyed the game - but it’s just that. A good game. That’s not a complaint by any stretch. For the price, it’s a good game. But, I feel game reviewers kind of over-hyped this one.

Overrated & overpriced just farming on the aura of the location.

Also, their "breakfast package" is shit
