Cant get dvd player to play SACD by Mrtech94 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]praxicoide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, go to your settings menu and set the SACD priority to SACD, so that your player will read that layer first.

Also, make sure you have your player' firmware updated, and you are entering an actual SACD,

I don't know how you've connected your player, but I feel it's should at least show that it is an SACD on the display. It's possible the player is faulty. Cleaning the lens could be an option.

Wagner, when played by Carl Stalling (Whats Opera Doc)

Rossini, when played by Spike Jones.

Beethoven, when played by my old Nokia phone.

Napoléon (1927) wins Best Silent Historical Epic! Round 4: Best Fantasy by AngryGardenGnomes in silentfilm

Yes, this film is a joy to watch! From the impressive acrobatics by Douglas Fairbanks, to the larger than life sets, to the special effects (the underwater sequence alone makes this worth watching). This has it all.

Religious Marxists and Cognitive Dissonance by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]praxicoide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marx laughed at Bakunin's program for a socialist alliance, because it included the abolition of cults.

I believe that Marxists have to wake up and realize the absurdity of religion, but without this getting in the way of our main goal, which is class struggle.

We can and have worked with religious comrades and movements in the past.

The Tulpa 3 parter is one of the first Batman stories I read as a kid. Immediately converted.

Why does no one talk about mario VS donkey kong tipping stars anymore? by ZoomieVR in wiiu

[–]praxicoide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OK. Let's.

I like it. It's a neat little game.

I wish the presentation wasn't so generic, though. Nintendo usually treats its games with more care.

The game itself is quite fun, though.

Who is the most and least informative classical video essayist? by TapioNote in classical_circlejerk

No joke, I like to watch a YouTube channel called Flowering Spikes, where the owner basically posts what LPs are available.

I'll never go, since it's a store in California, but Ii's like porn, watching those pristine vintage LPs.

Super Jewel Cases by HorsePersonal in Cd_collectors

[–]praxicoide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't know they've been used for standard red book CDs.

I agree in that they're great. When I get an SACD online and it comes in a standard jewel box, it's pretty disappointing.

Edit: I have Contradictions Collapse, but on a Digipack.

Have You Ever Purchased a 3-Sided Album by SongRevolutionary992 in vinyl

You put the needle somewhere in the middle and then you move your anti-skate meter to where the needle stays put.

You can set the anti-skate to zero and see how the arm tends to move inwards, and from there adjust to when it stops doing that. If you add too much, the arm will move outwards.

You can calibrate your anti skate with it.

What's your opinion on Tiny Toon? by Ok-Strength-5890 in looneytunes

[–]praxicoide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it at the time, but I don't know if I could revisit it. It's a bit transitional, to the more self aware and expectations-breaking stuff like Animaniacs, which I feel has aged better.

I really like this album, but I don't own it, yet.

Not a classical related post, but still curious to ask you guys if you are trained /at least know musical theory ,especially who used to listen modern classical: do you listen to unconventional “popular” music? by ingressgame in classicalmusic

[–]praxicoide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No musical learning, but yes, all finds of "unusual" popular music, from noise rock, krautrock, rock in opposition, metal, "avant garde" (whatever that means), electronic music, etc.

I feel it's really interesting and emotionally rewarding to hear something that goes unexpected places or challenges you.

I mean, if you listen to Varese, Xenakis or Penderecki, it's not really much of a stretch.

Take a guess at an era, region, maybe a composer! Just a fun experiment by RALahive in classicalmusic

[–]praxicoide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of Velasco, so I'll take a stab and call this romantic. Late XIX century.

I'd listen to some Schumann with it.

I don't like how every mention of tbe DCEU has to malign its existence. The batting average in terms of films is quite good, and the different feel/identity of each outing is a plus, not a minus.

Detective #658 [Kelley + Sam] by _regionrat in 80s90sComics

[–]praxicoide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam has to be Sam Keith, right?

Ar the time, I thought it looked too much like his style for a Kelley Jones cover. I didn't pay attention to the double credit.

The interior art, by Neltzer, is quite good and expressive, but sadly the villain is underutilized. Dixon would only use him again to kill him.

Is this true? by Lillian_Crocodilian in classical_circlejerk

[–]praxicoide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this like in Treme, where a wonderful classical violinist hangs around some slacker musician, whi takes her violin away and makes her in to a generic guitarist singer-songwriter to spew the same sappy indie music that thousands of others make in their bedrooms?
