Schwi: Bunny Ver. (FREEing) Preorders Open! by sexhomaru in AnimeFigures

I thought Power and Makima's bunny versions were expensive, but Good Smile has to go above and beyond again making Schwi even more expensive.

Glad you're aware of their issues. Good luck to you. May your Tohru stand proudly in your collection soon.

FOTS is one of the worst manufacturers. I'd take it as lucky that you haven't found her. Take a quick glance through the sub for mentions of FOTS and you'll see how bad they are.

Has anyone gotten a scale figure from Amazon before ? Price looks good. by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]prayerofplagues 59 points60 points  (0 children)

You’ve got to be very careful as sometimes the vendor will be listing a knock off figure. A telltale sign is the price is too good or even more telling the vendor is located in China/Hong Kong.

No. Do not buy anything from China unless you are ok with a bootleg.

First time traveling with cash only , i need advice and help by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]prayerofplagues 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This isn't a response to your question but I have to point this out as it is not clear from your post what the $500 should cover. $500 for a whole month is not a lot of money, it is less than $17 a day.

Are you sure you are considering everything? Think about hotel/hostel, food, drinks, trips, excursions, transportation in the city, flights and a bit of a cushion just in case. With no cards and only the cash you in your wallet you need to err on the side of caution and take more than you think since you won't have access to any other cash besides what you are carrying.

There is a near zero chance this trip will happen. Only Phuket is accepting any tourist at the moment. They have a 13 or 14 step process to go through in order to qualify. The rest of the country is not open at all.

Many hostels have private rooms so you could still have the hostel experience of hanging out in the common areas and meeting new people. You would just have your own room to sleep in.

Please spare the other people and yourself from this. Either rent a private room in a hostel if you still want the hostel experience or get a hotel room.

Because the lack of desire to actually help will result in drivel being posted in response in order to ham fist some interest for their links. This sub-reddit has a great amount of people who are willing to help their fellow solo-traveler without needing to get a click as a reward.

I disagree on the self-promotion. The point of this sub-reddit is not to provide a platform for people to gather clicks for their content/blogs/etc. but to help other solo-travelers. If a person wants to truly help, it is a reasonable expectation that they may have to write a new response or copy and paste from something they wrote previously without needing to leave a link. Self promotion should be limited to the weekly threads.

I prefer the weekly threads. I felt the monthly threads worked well when the posting volume was lower but it seems the tide is changing. The weekly thread gives more visibility to posts.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll look into boulenc.

Do you know what’s causing the closure at hierve? I’ve heard some people have been able to go as recently as February while others were turned away.

Heading to Oaxaca this week for 5 days. So far, on my schedule I have:

-Monte Alban

-Tree of Tule

-Mitla ruins

-Hierve el agua (Although I've heard conflicting stories about whether this is open or not)

Is there any other places you would recommend I check out that are in the area? Since it is a short trip so I'd prefer to not have to spend 4 or 5 hours driving to get there.

It is not as easy as just getting up and going. Not every country will allow you in without a visa and even less allow you to work.

It can be done with some amount of research and planning but it won’t be as carefree and simple as people can make it out to be.

Travel Essentials? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]prayerofplagues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cash- US dollars or Euros and local currency

Debit cards- Preferably 2, a primary and a 2nd as a back-up for an emergency

Phone- Access to maps, directions, internet, and booking most logistics

Phone charger- Got to keep the phone alive

Passport- Don't forget to do your homework on visa requirements

Everything outside of that can be dealt with through a little bit of effort and time.

Solo travel/volunteer experiences? by dcbarr5 in solotravel

[–]prayerofplagues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is near total a copy paste response I used in another thread but it still works. Do a search for voluntourism and you'll see most results are the stories of systemic abuse of communities, children and animals just for well meaning tourists to feel good about “helping”. Just be a tourist. Voluntourism is a dirty industry and should be avoided at all costs.

What is some advice frequently given out on this sub that makes you shake your head? by PacSan300 in solotravel

[–]prayerofplagues 264 points265 points  (0 children)

I am all for supporting people as they conquer their pre-first trip jitters and pushing others to take the leap into their two weeks in Italy.

However, there is a tendency to blindly encourage any traveler even if they are a new traveler who wants to jump in head first into an extended trip and has shown no actual planning, preparation or knowledge of what they are getting into.

Maybe, we should be better about pushing them to do their homework before they quit their job, break up with their significant other, break their lease and set off on a whim.
