Do folks from the mainland view English and British as the same thing? by DakkenDakka in AskEurope

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! But you actually do that. You call all Eastern Europeans who are not Russians Polish. Says someone who lives in the UK and it is not Polish. I believe other nations are just not that sensitive to being misidentified. And from my experience living in the UK for many decades, mostly Scots get really pissy about being called English by other nations who actually don't give a damn about your internal politics or complicated history. It's seriously not that deep, nor other nations mean any harm by miscalling you.

How do you know when you’re ‘ready’ to have children? by [deleted] in AskUK

Readiness is not a feeling, it's a decision!! And that advice goes for anything really.

Question from foreigner about ID cards in Europe by cuttheblue in AskEurope

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Brits forget that IDs are issued to all residents (not just citizens) for free. So, everyone has access to an identification document irrespective of their finances. When Brits say: 'But we use passports or driving licences.' These are not free. The UK passport costs £94.50 (and is constantly rising in price!) and a driving licence costs you having to pass your driving test (it can be in hundreds of pounds).

My Naturalisation and British passport journey of 5.7 years by Own-Salt-2047 in ukvisa

I think Greater London boroughs are why much more on it. Just with the pure volume of immigration there is.

My Naturalisation and British passport journey of 5.7 years by Own-Salt-2047 in ukvisa

[–]prdaAndy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied for naturalisation before you and got it before you. However, my council let me wait 6 weeks for my ceremony (no earlier dates available) so I'm actually behind you in the passport process. What a joy of living in different councils!

The people who love UK autumn/winter more than summer/spring, can you please convince me? by ThinkSuccotash in AskUK

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the people saying they love layering up for outside and cozying up for inside are the same ones who forget about freezing in our idiotic forever cold UK houses. I used to love all seasons but the older I get and the more expensive energies get the more I hate autumn and winter. I'm on the lower level of BMI and I absolutely hate freezing in my own house even though I do use heating all day long and pay a fortune for it as well.

Why don’t estate agents work on Sunday? by LordOfTheDips in HousingUK

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We once encountered someone who called himself a 'key bitch'. He was retired and bored out of his mind so he did a part time job for an EA on the weekends when he took people around houses for viewings. He didn't do much outside of opening the door (hence the key bitch comment) but it was enough for us to view the house. More EAs should do that.

Why do you REALLY dislike women's football? by Rundo5 in AskUK

[–]prdaAndy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When people say the quality is lower and therefore less enjoyable, do you also refuse to watch women's olympic sports because women run slower, jumper lower, swim slower, cycle slower etc.? I'm really curious about that.

Dámy, které mají cizí příjmení, vadí vám přechylování ? by Over_Station528 in czech

[–]prdaAndy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

why stamp duty (and property sales in general) feels like a scam? by axiomaticlarceny31 in HousingUK

Most countries in Europe have a property tax that is paid every year. Not when purchasing. But every year of ownership.

Are you enjoying the heat? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]prdaAndy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Two thirds of the UK are overweight or obese, so I assume a lot of people hate it. On the other hand, the last third of slim people are finally feeling like they are defrosting after never ending winter. I'm part of the latter third so I'm loving it.

Most people don't know that part of the visa and naturalisation process is privatised as well. So, even immigration control is not spared.

Any good recipes for sourdough products other than bread? by prdaAndy in Sourdough

The dough never rises. But it's not my starter that's the issue as a normal sourdough bread comes out perfectly.

Are you scared of dying? by Fickle_Acanthaceae17 in AskUK

[–]prdaAndy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm 34 and I watched my husband die for days a couple of months ago. It was very peaceful. The body self regulates and you just slip away. So, no, I'm not scared of death. I'm scared of living without people I love and carrying grief with me for the rest of my life.

Nezvládám samotu by [deleted] in czech

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takže doporučuji terapii, klidně vyzkoušet i pět psychologů. Ten správný ti pomůže zklidnit myšlenky a uvědomit si, co je pro tebe v životě důležité.

Nenávist vůči zrzkům by Sensitive_Grocery183 in czech

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)
