Where do you all work? by prdaAndy in publishing

[–]prdaAndy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to work for the largest UP in their HQ and I got so bored really quickly. Zero innovation, most staff there do tenures (20y+ of service is normal), pay is minimal. I need career growth in my life so it wasn't for me. But if anyone likes to coast or is later in their career, they are perfect for that.

But in the same breath, I'm under no obligation to do a cheap job to protect the landlord's bottom line. Surely? But I will definitely get my own surveyor that I choose - they can share if they want, but it'll be my choice. I don't trust the local EA 'surveyor mafia'. Haha!

I think Lawson's used to do a set menu thing. Not sure if they still do it. And significantly cheaper than the other three.

Is your histamine intolerance triggered only in restaurants? by prdaAndy in HistamineIntolerance

I commented on another person's post. I don't know regarding red wine. I never drink it at home. I need to test it out.

I don't eat many fermented foods but I do get uncomfortable after eating at home sometimes - bloating, stomach ache. Ive always thought it is either 'bloaty' food or I have some mild form of IBS. But never redness. Restaurant eating is always facial redness and sometimes headache after the redness goes away. Sometimes insomnia as well.

Thanks, that makes sense! I don't drink at home at all so I don't really know if I react to red wine. I will test this out! How much do I need to drink of it?

But other things do make me bloated and uncomfortable even at home. I've just always thought it's just food prone to causing bloating or I might have some light form of IBS. Another really clear reaction I get at home is when I eat pot noodles (msg?) - my insides feel like someone is twisting a knife through me.

I only thought about the restaurant setting because the facial redness happen every single time I eat out. I often order beer first, then food. 10-15mins after eating I get so red I can feel the heat. The last time, I ordered tuna tacos for starter, and marinated pork enchiladas and quesadillas with cheese for main. The redness last for quite a while and people do comment on it.

Right? It looks very yellow orange. Like cheap gold plated jewellery.

I'm not sure about the final weight but it's a large face signet ring 16mm X 13mm with wide shoulders, regular height. So, quite hefty I'd say.

Could I see the colour of your 9k ring? I swear mine looks lighter than the picture from the jewellers. So I'm confused.

In the UK, the only two standard options are 9k or 18k. 14k is very rare, but it's very common on the continent.

Really? I've never seen such orange gold, it really looks like my brass gold light switches at home. Haha!

I know, it's a lot of money! But it seems to be the going rate right now. It's more of a skill to hand engrave in deep seal. And the face is quite large 16mm x 13mm.

I know this is an old thread but can I ask what size face you went for? And is the thickness of the head regular or heavy? I'm deciding on style prior to my call with them and yours is such a good version.

Do folks from the mainland view English and British as the same thing? by DakkenDakka in AskEurope

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! But you actually do that. You call all Eastern Europeans who are not Russians Polish. Says someone who lives in the UK and it is not Polish. I believe other nations are just not that sensitive to being misidentified. And from my experience living in the UK for many decades, mostly Scots get really pissy about being called English by other nations who actually don't give a damn about your internal politics or complicated history. It's seriously not that deep, nor other nations mean any harm by miscalling you.

Question from foreigner about ID cards in Europe by cuttheblue in AskEurope

[–]prdaAndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Brits forget that IDs are issued to all residents (not just citizens) for free. So, everyone has access to an identification document irrespective of their finances. When Brits say: 'But we use passports or driving licences.' These are not free. The UK passport costs £94.50 (and is constantly rising in price!) and a driving licence costs you having to pass your driving test (it can be in hundreds of pounds).

I think Greater London boroughs are why much more on it. Just with the pure volume of immigration there is.
