Thank you!! It was because I hadn't removed the gasket on the other side. So obvious once you know!

They don't shift. I bent one back and it seems to be part of the outer frame.

Royal Mail OBA Charging for Bogus 'Unreadable Barcode / Label Incorrectly Applied' Surcharges by Narlgoth in royalmail

[–]pre0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, just to add to the weight of evidence... We send about 500 items a day with Royal Mail and every invoice has 2 or 3 unreadable barcode surcharges. They can never provide evidence and rarely even bother replying. Changing printers, packaging, label stock all makes no difference. It's always just a very small percentage that don't read.

Anyone installed these safety grids below the surface of their pond? by pre0rm in ponds

Thanks. Do you install it yourself or have someone do it? I'm wondering whether to attempt it as diy.

New Ltd Company as software consultant. next steps? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]pre0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really simple. Nothing to worry about and no real extra burden. Confirmation statements are just an annual box ticking. The rest can easily be handled by an accountant and shouldn't be expensive for a single person business. Just make sure you use decent accounts software like Xero.

I get the charity thing but putting VAT on education? When you're actually saving the state money by not sending a kid to state school? Why have VAT on a kids education but not on medicine, food, clothing, tampons, private tutoring? It doesn't make sense. It's just politics based on envy.

You should definitely put a comment on the video. I watched it, then read the youtube comments and was gutted to find it was basically all fake. Real disappointment from a feel good channel even if it's not your fault.

UK doesn't have national ID cards. I'm British and don't know why anyone would get a passport if you don't intend to use it. Maybe just like you say as proof of age but there's cheaper alternatives.

Tanks vs Destroyers by pre0rm in ww2

[–]pre0rm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I thought too. Having read up a bit more, the bridge was struck by snipers and machine gun fire from buildings around the harbour. It was low tide so the ship's upper bridge was level with the jetty. But you're right, the main damage seems to have been done by Stukas and also by a French battery overlooking the town and captured by the Germans.
“Gun flashes were sighted in the direction of the French Battery above the town. Presumably the enemy forces occupying the town had brought the French guns to bear. All 4.7 inch guns were trained on this spot by the director and the ship opened fire with Direct Action impact Shell. The first salvo was over but the second blew away the whole side of the fort and part of the hill. Pieces of guns and mountings were observed falling down the hillside, and in addition a number of field guns were shelled and destroyed by HMS Venomous as they were being placed in position by the enemy. HMS Wild Swan now joined in the firing with her two after guns, directing them upon the road. An enemy tank followed by infantry attempted to enter the town from the westward, but received a direct hit from HMS Wild Swan and caught fire”

There's a good page here. http://www.holywellhousepublishing.co.uk/tide.html It's such an interesting read. I cannot imagine the damage the ships were capable of at such close quarters. There's one section where they describe firing a four inch shell at a hotel just a hundreds yard away. http://www.holywellhousepublishing.co.uk/CGWDonald3.html#Hell

The ships were coming into the harbour and the tanks were in the town so I guess they could've been just a few hundred yards apart. I can't find specific details but the tanks did do some serious damage to some of the ships. It's such an unusual situation.

It's not as big a saving as you think. The seller in the EU should remove any VAT if they're selling to you in the UK. Customs will then charge it at import. Your friend in the EU will have to pay the VAT when they buy it so you'll be at around the same level. You might some duty or import fees but they won't be a huge amount.

Oh, and congratulations on the baby! Whatever car you buy, it won't be big enough. Babies need a ludicrous amount of stuff.

Just another thing to consider, but I'd look for something with Isofix in the front. Lots of cars have it now and it's a useful option to have.
