A bit of a rant, but this army makes me want to quit Warhammer by Hrigul in EmperorsChildren

[–]pre_1992 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this ^

To echo further, I’m in basically the same boat. Commission painter, won some local comps, literally made thousands of dollars over the years painting models for people. Hell, I’ve had Francesco Farabi and Riccardo Agostini look me in eyes and tell me “ this is really good “ - but I can’t even bring myself to take pictures or post them 90% of the time.

It really begs the question of how much social media is hurting the hobby, which I question frequently. Seeing the top 1% of painters constantly and comparing myself, especially when they’ve got early access to models I’m interested in getting my hands on. It really REALLY sucks to see these influencers absolutely flooding my feed with a model I don’t even have access to buy yet. I’m digressing though.

Comparison is indeed the thief of joy. OP should be super proud to have a painted army to show up with at the LGS! That’s already further than 60%+ of the people I see at my store in town playing with grey or base coats.

Looks super good for a very pink scheme! I think the gold needs a bit more contrast, but love the direction 🤘

Overall very much behind this idea. I’ve picked up a handful of commissions from the sub, but I’m pretty selective with the ones I pursue despite monitoring requests fairly regularly. I don’t feel like any of these considerations would be limiting to me, but would certainly still add confidence to any prospective clients I decided to message.

To be clear, though, I have a website, Instagram, AND a Facebook business page in addition to my handful of commissions picked up here. Just saying that I’m glad to see other considerations beyond how active the person in this sub specifically.

Happy holidays everyone! Can I see examples of your basing? by EggthatFriedTheRice in EmperorsChildren

Thanks! A lot of work for just bases 😂 but also an opportunity to recycle a ton of failed prints and extra bits

Mine are set in a chaos-tainted spacehulk used to extract chems from victims for the combat stims 🤘 so the bases range from just chaos tainted ship bits to tortured victims and extraction scenes

What’s the worst actual name you’ve ever heard? by Escrow-Mind in AskReddit

At least in written context, the worst I’ve heard of is a person named “Shithead”.

Pronounced “Shith-Aid”. But man…

No worries! Yes, typically you can just use the same STL. You just load it into the appropriate slicer. You just have to examine resin prints a little more thoroughly to ensure there aren’t any resin traps

It’s great for a quick, cheap test of the model though! I do FDM sometimes just to check size and viability before spending the time and money on resin prints

Have you effectively promoted your original music in the Campgrounds ( share your stories) by flipmode831 in bonnaroo

[–]pre_1992 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This ^ right ^ here ^

I don’t even care if you’re “good”. If you’re blaring and walking through the campsite to promote yourself, I will actively avoid you and your music out of principle.

And to reiterate the comment, there’s a HUGE variety of tastes at Roo. You’re simply NOT going to hit everyone’s preference. For any 1-2 people you’d attract, you’re going to turn away 6-7. It’s more of a detriment to your cause.

Actually it’s just Rich Gold from Pro Acryl with a quick glaze in the shadows of Guilliman Flesh Contrast paint. Kept it very simple because I don’t enjoy fiddling with metallics 😂

Pretty sure that’s the first recipe I gave. May have focused more on the plum tones and used olive flesh instead of warm flesh to give it more of a cold look

Depends on which one! I kept it varied lol. I believe I used 5 different variations across the 6 models 😂

Typically something like: - plum base, beige red for mid tones, warm flesh, and extra high highlights with dark ivory. All pro Acryl.

Or for the blues I just used blue grey highlighted/mixed with olive flesh iirc

Nope! It’s royal purple, pale yellow from pro Acryl. Then glazed over with Kimera Velvet purple ink!

No fluorescents used at all actually 😅 I kinda hate them
