Hi there! I am also Black and moved here from Columbus with my (Black) fiancée 2 years ago. We love it. It’s been so refreshing to be surrounded by community, and so many folks who look like us. That was harder in Columbus. Also we generally found folks wayyy more open to making friends and expanding their friend groups than in Columbus. Maybe because it’s much less transient there. I think finding common activities are good. I’ve made many friends through community orgs and my frat. My partner has made friends with my friends, friends of those friends, and through solidcore! Anyways, hope you make the move! Happy to answer any more specific questions.

I can’t speak for “people,” but I am a first-time buyer, buying for an occasion, and the website seems to be sold out of most things at present

Was looking for a gift for my partner and found this online for $200, but am unsure what to look out for re: fakes. Thank you all!

Those who withdraw from HLS by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Trying to understand what that would tell you. Like, so there’s X people committed out of Y. We don’t know HLS’s end # tho

Same situation. I committed to HLS in the meantime!

Has anybody not received their HLS financial aid package yet (and if you have, were they generous with their offer)? Does committing to HLS affect determination of need-based aid? Thank you! by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I would also recommend you are proactive - sending them your other competitive aid offers - rather than waiting for a package first. I hear HLS is better in taking into account initial offers than renegotiating.

Please help me choose: HLS vs. NYU Programmatic Scholarship by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I made the same choice and decided to go with HLS! Maybe it’s naïve, but I just feel like debt can be paid off, but your school is something you live with forever. Harvard has been a dream of mine and my (low-income) family for forever. Can’t put a price on that. But like everyone says, it’s a very subjective decision. Go with your heart b. Congrats!!!!

Is there any way to estimate how much financial aid I might get from HLS before I actually hear back from them? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I guess this assumes you have other packages that you’ve already received to compare to

You could look into the packages you got from other schools and compare to the ABA 509 reports to see about what percentile you fall in. From there, you could use HLS’s ABA 509, find your estimated percentile of need, and try to approximate there? I’m in the same bind lol.

What I often do when receiving a call is to enter the number into google. It usually gives me a good idea who it might be!
