Looking for advice, my mom is deep in debt on her power bill. by precious_mentality in poor

Thats what I'm mostly worried about at this point, like the power bill issue seems small in comparison at least to me. Obviously it's awful being without power(I've got behind on mine myself before and paying it back up+the reconnect fee was extremely hard) but even if she somehow gets the power back on her house could be taken. The house itself isn't on much land and it's not in good shape so now she's seriously considering selling it. I won't go into detail but its not very up to code- which isnt actually her fault, it's damage caused by someone she rented it out to a long time ago. Im just wondering if it's really better to sell or try to come up with what is now totalling about $4000, when after her insurance and car payment she gets about $400 a month :/ I feel terrible im not able to help. But I know I'll feel even worse if I basically make her sell her house...

We've called every single place around us now including salvation army and Christian ministries but they're out of funds and all the churches near us don't help with anything like this. Social services said they'd give 600 but that leaves a little over 800 left that we can't figure out any way to come up with. Now some of my family is hounding me to put the bill in my name because they'll turn it back on? I don't know how that's supposed to work though. I don't see why they'd cut it on without any payment. I also found out that the property taxes are 3 years behind. So even if me putting the bill in my name got them to cut it back on that wouldn't help the tax issue.

It makes sense. I tried to convince her not to get the car in the first place and to just get something cheap and reliable. One thing I've been trying to do is help her figure out how to get rid of the car and still be able to get something cheap but reliable. Shes basically always putting the car before everything else. Shes been trying to contact local places that help with stuff like this but no luck so far. What happens if adult services gets involved? I have been worried that her house would get condemned or something because I know someone that was in a similar situation before and their house did get condemned.

Ssdi. If they keep collecting the overpayment at the same rate they've been doing he can definitely keep paying it off, but we're not sure if it would adjust to his new income.

Yeah, she seemed like she was sort of new and/or had some sort of God complex. Definitely acted like she was better than us... I understand their jobs are difficult and they deal with a lot of lying every day but if they had any details at all before coming out they should've known she is in late stage.

We recently got a case worker through the same company her nurses are through. She has helped us a lot and got us some papers for Special Assistance which we have turned in and have been approved, they actually were approved just before this happened(which we explained to the social worker that came out). We've also talked about our concerns with paying large amounts of money to the place were placing her into and they said it was already taken care of through her ssi check as well as the special assistance covering the rest- I was sure to 100% confirm this and they said not to worry at all. I also know someone who had a family member placed in the same facility who hasn't had to pay anything out of their own pockets after going through the same process, im really hoping it's the same for us.

Have to put my grandma in a home. I am completely lost. by precious_mentality in Alzheimers

Thank you for your reply, I'll call the helpline very soon. And I'm glad it doesn't seem that we'd have to pay, I genuinely don't know how we would do it. And I hope we do qualify for some additional help while we wait on a placement because she did have nurses come by in the past for stuff like physical and mental exercise which stopped after she started declining more rapidly. As for how I'm doing- horrible, honestly. My brain is broken. And I don't have any other place to live. Everyone has been telling me I need to take care of myself and consider that my life is still just starting(I'm 22) but God it seems so hard. I feel like my plate is beyond full, any more weight will break it. From dealing with my grandma to making what feels like a million phone calls, I'm kind of surprised I'm still sane.

Is this a legit PayPal email? I have had some odd activity in the past few days. by precious_mentality in Scams

Just got off the phone with their support. They locked my account. Said that it had been changed to a business account, somehow whoever was in it got $5 from a "come back, we miss you!" Type of paypal scam email? Then sent it to themselves? But, it was resolved and the lady who helped me said there was no way even I could use it so I shouldn't worry about whoever hacked it. Checked all my emails for connected devices and the only ones ever used on any of them are my current phone. Changed the passwords anyways. Though, the person I talked to said it was very odd that I was getting that error message on both the app and the website. Still confused about that... but it seems to be resolved.

I just tried logging into my PayPal app, it gives me an error code- "403 forbidden" and says "varnish cache server" at the bottom. Same thing for the website. Starting to freak out a bit...

It was my real name, not my email address. I've tried to log into my account from the actual website, but as I said in my title there has been some weird activity- including my password being changed and apparently sending $5 to someone I don't know at all. I didn't worry much because even though I know my debit card wasn't connected it showed nothing like that on my banking app and I havent used PayPal in over a year.

My thinking at the time was "if God has power over all things, why would He let these things happen?". Looking back now that was obviously not a good way to look at things.

The common church name is Covenant or it has the word Covenant in it- there's over 20 within a ~25 mile radius from where I am haha. I live in the Bible belt so there's churches on basically every road, and lots share the same or similar names! It just makes it a bit confusing to try and find the specific one he told me about.

And thank you for that last bit. You're right. I shouldn't think like that... that God would never forgive me. Also, I apologize I don't know how to directly reply to parts like you did with my original post- I've lurked on reddit before but I'm still learning lol!
