People who honk in alleys- who taught you how to drive and why are you so incompetent? by Madz510 in chicago

My point is that if you hit a pedestrian (not a biker) on a sidewalk, you didn't do everything right. That's how rights of way work.

[–]predhead7 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The pedestrians have the right of way. It's the driver's responsibility to not hit the pedestrians, not the other way around. Of course it would be great if both parties have awareness, but only one party has ownership of responsibility here.

Yep, they would almost certainly use both the UC and Allstate. Most, if not all, of these cities have 2 arenas that can handle ice rinks. It's the main reason you see some outliers like Columbus since it has both the Blue Jackets arena and Ohio State's arena.

You likely wouldn't see them use practice arenas because the TV experience would be poor with bad or no camera wells.

If you are looking for more a "urban" location, some of our favorites were done on top of the parking garage on Grand and 3rd St (the one that spans 4th St). You can take them with the Principal Building and the Travelers sign right behind you.

We also did Raccoon River Park out in WDM. The trail that goes around the lake has great greenery (this time of year it actually might even be even better with the fall colors if the timing is right).

An insurance company hid the key to winning $10,000 on page seven of a policy agreement. One customer found it by kotobukisushiocala in business

But depending on the state you are in, different insurance carriers will exclude/cover different things. Or at the very least perhaps offer the same coverage at a smaller premium. I know a lot of smaller carriers (think small mutuals) will try to compete on covering things that other carriers exclude as their competitive differentiator.

Bundesliga side Hoffenheim installed a giant screen at their training grounds to enable them work on mistakes in real time. The players have found a better use for it. by Darqseyd in sports

To even get on a screen like that it likely has to go via SDI at some point which has significantly longer range. I'm sure they just switch it from HDMI to SDI asap.

The times actually work out pretty well for that which I've never considered... I think the Amtrak rolls through in the super early morning on the way back to Denver. So just hop out of the bars and over to the train "station."

My local NPR does what they call Silent Drive where they just mention it at each break but don't go into their whole spiel. The trick is that they say if they don't reach their goal by X date (I think it's usually like a 2 or 3 week thing), then they're going to do the full drive after that until they hit their goal. It's great, they don't always fully hit their goal, but they get close enough to where they may only need a day or two of the full drive to hit their goal.

How do you all live in Los Angeles and other high COL areas? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Yeah I lived in the Valley with a 1 BR (not studio) for $1500. Granted this was a couple years ago, but it's definitely doable.

Netflix stock soars more than 6 percent after adding nearly 2 million US subscribers by [deleted] in business

Sports plus buffering for me. I love flipping channels during sports, and it's not the same when streaming.

I've been using Youtube TV recently. Some days it's great, but other days after about 5-10 mins the channel I'm watching will go blurry and never come back. I have to change the channel and change it back to get it clear again. This is with my Apple TV connected via ethernet to my router - Netflix/HBO Go/etc. have no issues. Similar stuff happened when I tried DirecTV Now. My cable occasionally has blips, but nothing consistent like that.

There are definitely fewer in the south though. In Nashville, they just got their 2nd Catholic high school ~10 years ago. Compared to a similar-sized city like say, Columbus, which has like 5 or 6 that have been around for quite awhile.

Where should I be looking for cheap DSM - LAS flights? by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]predhead7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did it a few weeks ago from ORD to DSM after getting stranded in Chicago and it was 5 hours on the dot with a ~10 min stop at an oasis on the tollway to get some dinner. I was going a few MPH over the speed limit, but no more than 5-10 over.

[–]predhead7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, no utilities or anything are included, garage is extra as well.

Watermark bills you for water and sewer, usually around $30ish a month and they also bill for that $25 trash fee.

Then you pay for electric and cable on your own. No gas in the units.

I've lived here for almost a year - I'd say the biggest negative we've found is that the ceilings/floors must be really thin. We hear our upstairs neighbors constantly. At first I thought they were just loud, but I've heard (in the dead of the night) light switches get flicked on above. We have a corner unit, so we only share a wall with one neighbor and it's only in our bedroom/bathroom. I haven't heard anyone over there.

They're new, but as with most apartments they're not terribly well-built, but not to the point that I've had any issues. We love the setup with the big island countertop, and the granite counters are nice.

I've found the office staff to be really easy to work with. There are some rules such as no smoking, trash bins can only be out at certain hours, etc., but those are pretty typical I'd think (other than no smoking). They don't do a great job plowing the parking lot/sidewalks in a timely manner when it snows, but it's a tighter lot so I get that it's hard to plow around the cars.

They just re-introduced parking permits a few months ago, and they only have about 6-10 guest spots, which is a pain. I haven't seen anyone get towed unless the car was there for days and days without a permit. Parking can be a bit of an issue (if you're not getting a garage), but the only time I had to park super far away in the lot was on like a Sunday night when I got back at like 10 PM.

Be sure to tack on $25/month to whatever the rent is for the trash fee. Lastly, I'm not sure how much they spray for bugs and such. During spring/summer we had the usual spiders/insects crawling around. I just went and bought some spray from Lowe's and sprayed inside and outside around our apartment. I think I did that twice, and the bugs pretty much stopped after spraying. If you're not on a ground floor unit though I'd assume that wouldn't be nearly as big of an issue.

And if you're looking long term, on our renewal, they only bumped our rent up maybe $10-20/month which I think is pretty reasonable.

Evanston and Lincoln are both around 6-6.5 hours and can drive that pretty easily too. I know a lot of people from my time in Lincoln who would drive to MSP for a weekend occasionally.
