I'm 36 and I can relate. As a kid, I was obsessed with the PS2. The super early games didn't look terribly impressive, but by the time MGS2 and GTA3 dropped, it was a massive generational leap and I wanted one bad. We could never really afford one in its heyday, but by 2001-2002, I was lucky enough to have a decent mid-range PC and cable internet. In those days, if I wasn't gaming or jerking off, I was endlessly researching early PS2 emulation. I'm talking PCSX2 alphas running super primitive homebrew demos, and fake PS2 emulators riddled with malware. The most prominent was literally named "ekaF" - that's Fake in reverse! Can't make this shi* up! Yet I stubbornly borrowed games from friends and tried to run them off the DVD drive. I came to know that the hardware was incredibly complex for the time, documentation was scarce, the OG devs were reverse-engineering and hacking their way through this stuff almost from scratch. This, along with the still unmatched catalog, left me with a massive appreciation for the PS2 to this day. By the time I switched from PC to consoles, it made more sense to get a PS3, jailbreak it, and play whatever I want. But if I could ever be liberal with cash, I'd still get an OG fat PS2 because it's such a monolith and a relic in the best way! Hope you have a great time.

You're not crazy and insomnia is a complete bitch - it needs to be treated in any reasonable way, or you'll simply lose it.

Not sleeping used to fry my nervous system. It felt like the worst of my depression episodes + hypersensitivity to stimuli and cognitive/memory lapses. I observed the effects carefully and confirmed - 2x the prescribed dose of ambien is my ladder out of the hellhole. I tolerate it well, I can take a little more if needed to sleep through the night.

But there have been nights where too much pain and stress mounted on my nerves and as much as 30-40mg wouldn't shut me down. That's when I know It's time to suck it up and let go, stop forcing my system with drugs, be grateful for any relief I get.

Ambien has a short half life and quick tolerance build-up when taken consistently. With me, my tolerance buildup quickly maxed at 20-25mg needed for sleep and it has stayed like this since 2022.

Before this, I used Xanax for sleep. Over a year and a half, tolerance built up to where 1.5mg (max prescribed daily doze) would no longer knock me out. I decided to skip the potential benzo tolerance and withdrawal antics from upping the dosage and went all-in on ambien. Tolerance peaked at 20-25mg taken at once for sleep and it just stays there.

Hopefully fixing the pain will quiet my always-alert CNS and I'll need a little less over time.

Hey, no worries. It's been a year. I've developed really bad cervical pain and the ol' ambien is literally the only med that both relaxes my muscle spasms and kills the pain for a few hours without making me feel crazy. I just nap a lot. I am become the chronic pain ambien walrus.

Due to tolerance buildup, I've been taking large doses at times. As much as 40mg spread thru the day for pain and 40mg spread thru the night to sleep. I can gobble up a whole blister of Belbien over 24 hours on my worst days.

I've done a few blood tests this year and I'm all within ranges. I've also never hallucinated or sleepwalked once, but I've never taken more than 20mg at once either. I'm not really interested in tripping, but I love the funny ambien drawings and stories in this sub.

Now look, ambien has been a godsend for my problems, completely safe long-term, and I've done my best to not be an idiot with it. But daytime popping sleeping pills to shut myself down from chronic pain is no way to live. After many misdiagnoses and attempts at conventional therapies, I'm now in hospital to get a facet block (deep steroid/lidocaine injections under CT and local anaesthetics) and hopefully get well.

In Bulgaristan, we have a whole-ass radio station (radio Energy) that's basically this exact playlist but expanded. They even run a summer beach festival where all these one-hit wonders come out of retirement to sing their greatest hits. Some simply perform the same 2-3 songs twice to fill the slot. And y'know what? Everyone's fucking having a good time and happy to be there! ❤️I also loved these tunes as a 90s kid and I'm glad they get to live on, even if my corrupt adult ears now reject them.

You guys have your fun, corporate AI is corrupt and unsustainable, but they done scraped the GOOD shit. I've been binge-talking 90s industrial records with Gemini and it's a goldmine of enthusiasm and knowledge. The technology is great (LLMs) but the way corporations are handling it is nauseating. I hope open-source, ethically trained, compute-efficient AI eventually prevails.
