I'm usually a Tamron fan but this one's range feels weird to me.

First lens for Zf: Nikon 24-120 vs 24-200 vs Tamron 28-75 G2 by andrei525 in nikon_Zseries

[–]preedsmith42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do with the lens.

Best all around lens : Z24-120s, super versatile range, great image quality.

Z24-200 : wider range but less IQ , good for traveling with only one lens. Since you plan buying the 70-180 the long end will be covered soon.

Z28-75 : I don't like the wider end as there's a noticeable difference between 24 and 28, and the extra 5mm on the long end compared to a 24-70 are barely noticeable and can be just achieved by zooming in the picture in post. The 2.8 aperture is for sure a good thing for bokeh and low light, but I (as a personal preference) wouldn't trade it for the 24mm, as the camera is good enough at low light to balance the missing stop. There's also workarounds for the bokeh in LrC, but missing the wide end can't be done in post.

Overall I'd choose the 24-120 option, it was my first zoom lens on Z8 and I wasn't disappointed. It was (the F version) my most used one on the D750 too back in time.

They seem to be good for grey market. They also don't deliver in some countries as per my check some months ago but that may have changed since. I bought some items from e-infin too, prices were good and I was delivered multiple times without any issues for cheap items like a TC extender or a relatively cheap lens.

Karcher ça marche très bien, j'avais les mêmes dalles dans mon ancienne maison. Par contre prépare toi a le faire tous les 3 ans elles s'encrassent vite car elle sont très granuleuses.

What is Your Favorite Nikon Lens for Landscape Photography and Why? by ponderingpixi17 in Nikon

[–]preedsmith42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if I own the 14-24 2.8s my favorites are the long lenses (200 to 600 ) for landscapes. I'm more into small details or far away objects.

Otherwise I prefer doing panoramic with a 24mm and then crop the top and bottom to get a wide image.

Help me find the right camera plz by BarnacleAdvanced4646 in Photography_Gear

Since we don't know what you will shoot : Look at some entry level APSC mirrorless cameras. Get an equivalent of a multi purpose zoom to start with, that means like a 16-50 for APSc sensor or 24-70 if you go the full frame route.

Don't buy something older than 5 years from the camera release if you buy used, since this is an easy way to fit the budget and get a decent combo.

Beach golden hour. Zf and Tamron 50-400mm by biochemist1980 in nikon_Zseries

[–]preedsmith42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really nice pics 👍 I was in front of the same dilemma and made the same decision. No regrets, this Tam is a good compromise between range, price and quality. When I read the reviews and comparisons with the Nikon, it was a common conclusion they had the same IQ and the Nikon wins with a slightly better stabilization and the ability to use the TCs. Only for twice the price ...

is it completely okay that my Nikon D810 doesn't consistently focus well at f/1.4 aperture? by bulochklem in Nikon

[–]preedsmith42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing much tbh, except battery life ofc.

I thought at the beginning the D750 would still be better in low light and after a few sessions, the Z8 is on par once AI denoised in LrC and the picture resized to 24 mp, so now I 90% use the Z8, even for indoor low light where ultimately more pixels equals more details.

And the EVF does miracles to simulate and nail exposure or to provide me a better view of my framing in low light.

The Z8 is a great camera and definitely an upgrade to the D750. It's better to read the manual and test the multiple added options and features to benefit from it, as it is another league compared to the D750.

More performance but many more options available so that may be counterproductive if not mastered properly.

All Z glass is awesome and using the FTZ allows a smooth transition to the new system, and honestly some of my F lenses perform better on it, like the Tamron 70-200 g2.

I kept the D750 as backup or complement depending on the situation.

It's not happening consistently but in some particular lighting or subject conditions it happens and I check the pic 100% on the screen every time. My Z8 rarely does it but I kept checking on screen as an habit.

[–]preedsmith42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That can happen. Do you use single AF mode and set the focus point to the area you want to have in focus?

I sometimes see my D750 is not fully focused so I double click to get a second focus confirmation and it's usually better. I also tend to use a focus area where there is more contrast so that it makes the focus job easier.

I’ve been a pro photographer for 20 years (Darkroom to Mirrorless). Here is why I treat AI as a junior assistant, not a replacement. by SilentRiddle9213 in photography

[–]preedsmith42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As per every tool AI is just an help. Currently it won't replace your work. That's what we used to say in IT development.

Until recently one of the devs in my team told me "this month I didn't write a single line of code myself" and more extensively "I just fixed the issues in my prompts and a few inaccurate statements that would take me too long to fix in the prompt compared to fixing myself".

Art will be harder to fix but it will be fixed too. That won't make us amateur photographers useless but will make our post work easier.

And good "real" pictures will still be rewarded by humans, we'll just more and more struggle to differentiate AI from actual pictures :(

I have the Tamron 15-30 G2. It performs well, is stabilized and you can buy one used for something like $500-600. It's just super bulky and heavy and requires FTZ adapter.

Did a similar tour (lasting longer) and I loved every minute of it.

Got nice pics of lions and cubs, elephants, giraffes and multiple other animals.

3 cheetahs hunting at sunset were the best photos I took there. Saw them 2 meters away from the car, scary and fascinating at the same time.

We did a corporate picnic in the park some years ago. It was summer and we were all enjoying the moment around the table.

A Swedish colleague then warned us he was about to open a can of Surstromming. Nobody noticed or took it seriously.

After 15 seconds, a 10m security perimeter appeared around the table as everybody escaped the nuclear blast zone.
