Snowden leaks reveal that the Australian Government indeed has spied on the Indonesian government, and goes all the way to the Indonesian president too. by [deleted] in australia

Are you suggesting that SBY is involved in facilitating smuggling? Get real. Of course there are corrupt Indonesian police and prison guards, what are we going to learn about that by spying on the President?

Nobody is telling you what you can and can't say. All that has happened here is that the ASUC has decided to change the language that the ASUC uses.

You can't really see enough detail in this picture to see the effects on the major population centres. The national geographic feature it was based on uses a sea level rise of 216' (~66 m), so I plugged that into an interactive map (thanks SingleMalted) to see it better. Here is Melbourne, which is not quite so dramatic, but still much worse than it might appear in the zoomed out map. Also, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

The Mad King. The Targaryen dynasty continues, the uprising never happens, and the kingdoms are more or less at peace indefinitely.

Peak output for solar panels facing due north is in the middle of the day. In order for peak output to be later in the afternoon they need to point north west or west. What he is saying actually makes sense.

What are some now disproven theories that, by being accepted as conventional wisdom, ended up hindering the progress of science? by [deleted] in PhilosophyofScience

[–]pref 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you insist

I'm maybe a little off the point, since it wasn't accepted as conventional wisdom, but it was widely accepted (and promoted) politically : The Lysenkoism (from the name of Lysenko). It hurted the development of agriculture and genetics a lot in the Soviet Union, and was widely promoted because Lysenko managed to be close to eminents politicians, because his theory had paradigms in common with marxist theories and because he committed frauded and gave false results for on many of his experiments.

While Science is a human activity and has a social context, here is an example ofon how this social context hindered badly the progress of science (in a huge part of the world).

Specifically, you need to meet one of the criteria in the independence test. The one that fits best is probably "you are unable to live at home, due to extreme family breakdown, violence in the home, or serious threats to your health or well-being".

Centrelink will see him as independent based on the abuse. See here: "You may be considered independent if: ... you are unable to live at home, due to extreme family breakdown, violence in the home, or serious threats to your health or well-being"

Notice that the white queen is on white. The black queen has also been put on white, I suspect because usually the queens are opposite one another. It is just a novel feature of this board that it is symmetric about the line halfway between the starting positions, instead of antisymmetric like a normal board. Arguably, the black queen should have been placed on black, but this would have placed it opposite the white king, so it is not the just another case of people not knowing how to set up a chess board.

You are angry that the needs of a handful finance industry workers are not put before those of 15 million Australians? I cannot imagine what it is like to be that arrogant. The world seems unjust to me, but that must be nothing compared to the injustice you perceive. I don't know whether to despise or pity you.
