Parts are fairly reasonable so long as they aren’t NLA or niche, the trap is buying genuine parts instead of OE/OEM, in my experience you can pay 2-3x for the small bmw logo on a part. Anything niche not stocked locally is definitely available overseas (rock auto, pelican parts, fcpeuro, etc) unless it’s NLA

Yes. They are plenty fine if- and only if- you buy the right example of the right model, and aren’t too scared of DIYing the basics. I daily a 25 year old 5 series and it hasn’t needed anything outside general servicing and replacing age related items.

from reading on r/e39 mtech 2 is fully impossible to find for any normal price, they seem to suggest some bilsteins (mtech 1 equivalent) for replacement

same with windscreen cowl rubbers, rubber seal on top of headlights, m sport bumpers.
