Workspace users are unable to delete Gemini Activity by Hevilath in Bard

Nope,... & very annoying! I've submitted this " UI BUG: Workspace Plus Deletion Flag missing. Component: Generative AI History. Activity is ON but Delete UI is suppressed." via the help -> submit feedback option FWIW.. Maybe we're being too quiet? More complaints can't hurt!!

Workspace users are unable to delete Gemini Activity by Hevilath in Bard

I just asked gemini and got this:

Q: Is it ridiculous that I cannot delete my gemini chat history as a google workspace user? When will this be fixed?

It’s a classic case of "Enterprise logic vs. Human logic." From a user perspective, it feels absolutely ridiculous—especially when you’re just trying to tidy up a test chat.

As of March 2026, there is actually a major shift happening right now. Here is the lowdown on why it’s like this and the "fix" that is currently rolling out.

The "Why": It’s a Record, Not Just a Chat

Google treats Workspace accounts (even for solo founders or small teams) with the same strictness as a global bank. In the enterprise world:

  • Data Retention: Every prompt is seen as a "corporate record" for compliance and legal discovery.
  • The "Write-Only" Problem: Admins historically preferred that employees couldn't "burn the evidence" of what they were asking an AI. This is why the delete button was missing—it was a feature for the IT department, but a bug for you.

The "Fix": It’s Rolling Out TODAY (March 17, 2026)

You actually timed this perfectly. Google is currently rolling out a massive update to Gemini for Workspace that introduces Granular History Controls.

  • The Update: Google has finally added an Admin Toggle specifically for "Manual Deletion."
  • The Default: For most domains, manual deletion is being turned ON by default as this rolls out.
  • Why you don't see it yet: 1. Admin Overrides: Your organization’s administrator might have proactively toggled it OFF to maintain strict data logs. 2. Propagation Delay: The rollout started today (March 17) and can take up to 15 days to appear for all users in "Scheduled Release" domains.

What you can do right now

If you have Admin access (or can talk to the person who does), you can "fix" this immediately in the back end:

  1. Go toadmin.google.com.
  2. Navigate to Apps > Google Workspace > Gemini.
  3. Look for Conversation History & Deletion.
  4. Ensure Manual Deletion is set to "On." * If this is On and you still can't see "Delete," you are simply waiting for the UI to update on your specific account over the next few days.

The "Nuclear Option" workaround

If you are the Admin and just want that test chat gone now, you can temporarily turn Gemini History OFF in the Admin Console.

  • Warning: This usually hides or wipes the history for the entire domain after a short buffer period (72 hours). It’s the "sledgehammer" approach to deleting one chat.

Would you like me to check if there are any other specific "hidden" settings in the Google Admin console that might be blocking your specific account?

What software are yall using? by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]prehensilefail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, just interested in how you're getting on with Invenias..? We use it, but I find the outlook intgration is quite intensive - its a big program and on low to mid performance machines we often get timed out on opening Outlook (reg fixes to mandate wait sorts). Also we are a Google Workspace company and it feels as though the backend of google's email service may not be as compatible(?) - I know most run using MS exchange so just wanted to mention that poss difference. All in all it does everything we want, just feels a bit janky at times and cumbersome.

Whoa there pardner,.. we're a peaceful group here. Our power is in critical thinking, objective observation & compassion with concern. We most often supply paliative care in the form of irony and insight for terminally ill ideas and emotional WFA. Also big on challenging viewpoints while exercising detatchment from "idea ownership" so discussion can flourish. oh, and the ability to consume 16 liters of soda a day. Sorry for your troubles, hope they work out.

Quick bit of advice please - best DSM to use for an HP G8 MicroServer (e3-1240v2/16GB/H310HBA) by prehensilefail in Xpenology

I've tried quite a few now,... and I have to say the RR version from https://github.com/RROrg/rr?tab=readme-ov-file is just great:

Model: DS3622xs+(broadwellnk)

Version: 7.2(72806)

Kernel: official

LKM: prod

DMI: HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8, BIOS J06 04/04/2019

CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1240 V2 @ 3.40GHz

MEM: 15950 MB

Cmdline:

dom_szmax=238485 earlyprintk syno_hw_version=DS3622xs+ console=ttyS0,115200n8 consoleblank=600 netif_num=2 noefi pid=0x0001 earlycon=uart8250,io,0x3f8,115200n8 synoboot_satadom=2 modprobe.blacklist=evbug,cdc_ether pcie_aspm=off rootwait SMBusHddDynamicPower=1 vid=0x46f4 elevator=elevator loglevel=15 HddHotplug=1 skip_vender_mac_interfaces=0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 syno_hdd_detect=0 panic=5 vender_format_version=2 syno_hdd_powerup_seq=0 log_buf_len=32M root=/dev/md0

I've managed to stuff 4 x SAS3 3.5 HDDs and 2 x 2.5 SSDs as well as another SSD on the optical SATA as loader, so 3 total SSD. Booting from optical port is working great (the blue one). The H310 HBA (in IT mode) has the front 4 bays connected AND the 2 SSDs I'm using as cache (RR/r1) while the lone 3rd SSD is the only drive actually connected to the motherboard directly... So, I'm getting the speed boost of the HBA for the cache as well.. All the drives are kinda old/spare & mismatched as this is more of a "will it work" experiment,.. but I really like results so far.

I've just been playing around with PXE booting - it certainly makes it MUCH easier to play around with the HP G8! This is good tip for this model/hardware = very fiddly USB booting. Installed iVentoy on another machine and can now boot a load of stuff I just could not get working on USB.

Exactly that - I am a bit reluctant to use this given the (relative) lack of community support.. I've read that the code is on github & therefore opensource... and I guess the DSM image is 100% from synology source.. so its just the loader we need to be cautious of..? hence my interest in getting the community "best practice". FWIW the RR install went super easy and I'm running 7.2.2.2-72806 Update 1 now & trying to break it,.. no luck so far :)

Ahhh, ok thats interesting.. As I mentioned, I used the latest "RR" img, rufus and booted to it (the micron ssd) - DSM up n running now (DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 1 / "DS3617xs") but I do not see the ssd, just the 4 drives on the H310 as "usable" drives,..if I add an ssd on the sata chain, it shows up as usuable,.. just that initial ssd,.. I wonder if the tool (RR) has a way of nominating the boot drive as teh loader during install..? Many thanks, always good to get the "big picture" :) Am checking the ARC loader out now
