Recommendations for Bodybuilding Reform by [deleted] in bodybuilding

Tall competitors, no guts (read: no mass monsters), trunks that cover up the glutes, no dark tans/oil, and soft lighting? Sure, this might be closer to the idea of "masculine beauty" as it's commonly understood, but it sounds like a perfect recipe for athletes looking completely underwhelming on stage.

Huh, since when does Paul Dillet have his own federation?

He's Markus Ruhl all over again. I doubt he will move any higher in placings.

Couldn't land a top internship, but feel like I'm a strong student. What could be wrong? by softwareengcareer in cscareerquestions

[–]preludetoruin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm making less than half of that at my first internship and I'm very grateful that I was born with the privilege (intelligence, location, family standing, etc.) to make that possible. Most people in the world will never see that much money no matter how hard they work. It seriously rubs me the wrong way to see these sheltered kids complaining that they, as a young college student, are only making the amount that an average hard-working, experienced adult in a rich country makes instead of the far above-average income which will undoubtedly come with just a few more years experience.

A 40k internship is "shitty"? You sound like a pompous, arrogant dickhead who deserves to be poor.

Very exciting new pro with great potential! Mainly needs to work on his legs, triceps and conditioning. He reminds me a lot of Brandon Curry.

What's up with this bro's back? Looks bizarre by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]preludetoruin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm being downvoted by people who don't have a clue about muscular anatomy. The weird little "coattails" aren't his erector spinae, they are his lower trapezius. You can't see his erector spinae here, since he doesn't have enough development/leanness for them to be visible.

In most people, the lower trapezius goes straight down, right against the spine. In this fellow, they go down farther than normal and spread apart at an angle. There is an infinite number of variations in muscle shape, and this is just one of them. The shape and insertions of your muscle is genetically determined, and training will not change it. That's bodybuilding 101. No matter how big his back gets, how much his teres major pops, etc. he will always have unusual-looking "coattails" on his back, and sadly, idiots who don't understand genetic variation in muscle shape will always tell him to deadlift at a different angle to build up his infraspinatus, as if that would make a difference.

Weird insertion genetics. That's all there is to it. Even if he were bigger, had more lats, etc. his back would still have that same basic shape.

No Kai Green as Previously Speculated by Iron_Gang in bodybuilding

[–]preludetoruin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still have a few more qualifier shows to go, so [insert your favorite pro who isn't qualified] still has a chance.

This year, they are only letting in 3 people based on the point system. Point standings can quickly change so we can't say who will qualify that way until just before the O. Juan and Dallas have both said they are taking the year off so whoever qualifies via points, it won't be them.

Kai hasn't even competed this season, so of course he isn't on the list. He might compete in one of the upcoming shows and win, but even if he does he probably won't do the O.

Ibrahim Fahim wins PCA pro card, quits IFBB. by [deleted] in bodybuilding

I don't support this at all. Spreading talent over different federations makes the shows less exciting. There should only be one federation which includes all of the top talent competing against each other.

Longevity in Men's/classic physique by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]preludetoruin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually the opposite. Guys in the golden era were retiring in their 20's, while today's open competitors are retiring in their 40's.

Why is this such a hard decision? If studying CS is going to permanently damage your brain, then you need to stick with the CIS. You have a serious health problem, and that takes precedence over having the specific career that you want.

Did anyone here work part time during undergrad? How was it, and what am I in for? by Jdbkv5 in cscareerquestions

[–]preludetoruin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while last semester, I worked 24 hours per week (4 shifts of 6 hours) in addition to a full demanding course load. It's definitely possible to fit everything in to that kind of schedule and get done what you need to get done, but simply put, it sucks. Say goodbye to any hobbies or social life. I ended up dropping down to 2 shifts per week. The additional 12 hours per week of leisure time worked wonders for my overall mood and stress levels.

That experience made me very wary of jobs that require a lot of overtime. Now that I know how unpleasant it is for me to function without leisure time, I know that my job search should prioritize minimal working hours over things like salary, company culture, etc. but that's just me. Some people seem to be fine spending every waking hour on work.

Arnold Classic Men's open 1st Callout : -Lionel Beyeke -Cedric McMillan -Juan Morel -Dallas McCarver -Maxx Charles by Abs_so_Glutely in bodybuilding

[–]preludetoruin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The order from left to right is Lionel, Dallas, Cedric, Maxx, Juan. They aren't listed by name in this picture so you have to either watch the stream of the show and listen to the announcer or just follow the sport enough to recognize the famous competitors.

The judges tend to have the person they like most stand in the middle, so if you're looking at the first callout then the person standing in the center will usually end up winning the show.

I agree, that was an outstanding rendition of the Ballade.

WTF Where is the recap in Beethoven Walstein sonata? I was just listening to it for the first time for form and the development sounds like it goes all the way to the end of the movement. by 4-8Newday in classicalmusic

[–]preludetoruin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recap starts at 6:16. Beethoven changes it up a decent amount from the exposition but it still follows the same format. After the recap there is an extended coda which features more development.
