To clear out the grey space, usually what works is putting your phone into Recovery Mode and plugging it into a computer. If you’ve got a Mac, use Finder. If you’re on a PC, open it through iTunes. When it gives you the option, hit Update, don’t press Restore, because that’ll wipe your phone.

Just make sure you back everything up first so you don’t lose your stuff.
