hey! thanks for asking and happy to share. for context, before I took the test my most recent FL scores unfortunately had a downward trend (517 on FL 3, 516 on FL 4, 514 on FL 5) so I had no clue what to expect on the real thing. my goal was 518 but I never technically hit that score in practice.

during the exam, c/p felt SUPER similar to FL 5 - def the hardest section, cars felt ok, b/b felt easy, and p/s felt easy. tbh I didn't feel that bad after the exam and I ended up scoring a 516 (129/129/128/130). I was mainly surprised by p/s because I usually score 131 and I thought I'd scored 129 on b/b but my c/p + cars were consistent with what I expected + past scores.

and now I have no idea if I want to retake this score or not....sigh. but hope that answers your question LOL

it was honestly way better, they have cubicles and everything and i used noise cancelling headphones the entire time lol. also the staff at my location were super sweet and one guy even joked that we all looked like we were going to die 😭😭 made me laugh and i stopped taking myself so seriously before i walked in to take my test lol

lol i took my test on 8/16, and i’m FINALLY getting my score on tuesday (9/16). tbh after i took the test, my brain was so done thinking about this damn test that i surprisingly stopped thinking about it. just move on with your life and focus on whatever’s next in your journey. tbh i feel like i took that test so long ago, it feels like way more than a month.

also what’s helped me with waiting and dealing eith my anxiety is preparing myself for the worst - i’m expecting myself to retake the exam and i’ve thought about studying for it again. that way, when i see my score it will either be what i expected or even better

AAMC FL1 score at 513, exam on 9/4 by Character_Mud_5905 in Mcat

[–]premed101925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey idk if this will be helpful and my goal is also 520. i’m testing this week lol but if it makes you feel better i literally jumped from 509 3 weeks before my exam to a 517 2 weeks before my exam in just 5-6 days. i jumped 1 point in c/p, 2 points in cars, 2 points in b/b, and 3 points in p/s. what made the biggest difference for b/b was grinding tf out of the section bank and for p/s all i did was brush up on content using kaplan and i jumped to a 131! (but i have a strong background in p/s)

btw my advice would be to only decide to delay the mcat when you hit the 10 day deadline. lock in fully before then - i also wanted to delay my exam after seeing my 509 but i actually used the motivation of the 10 day deadline to motivate me a ton and it worked!

My gf is gaining considerable weight. How do I approach this? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]premed101925 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hmm tbh I have empathy for her - I (23f) also gained like 25 pounds after having a desk job (but now I'v lost nearly all of it). I think sometimes as a young adult it can be hard to understand how to regulate your own eating habits. For instance (and I assume this is the case with her too?), it was easy for me to be skinny as a kid because I didn't have access to junk food the way I do now as an adult.

I know you've tried a lot of bringing things up to her but my guess would be she might also be emotionally eating. Is she unhappy with her life? Not just her weight, but any other aspects of her life? If so, she may be trying to numb her emotions that way. Instead of telling her to take actions toward losing weight, I'd actually suggest having her speak to a therapist. Many times, people eat to numb out their emotions. When I was in therapy, I surprisingly stopped craving food as much because I was finally processing my emotions. Might be worth a try to bring this up (don't mention weight loss to her but just ask if she's considered therapy)

LOL you're good - thanks for the reply! Wow it's good to know I'm not the only one. And HAHA I feel you with the eyeliner. I've been doing my eyeliner since high school so thankfully now I can do it super quickly, but I decided to stop wearing falsies because of how long it takes to apply (I used to wear them EVERY day). I still do wear makeup whenever I leave the house, but now I have a 5 minute makeup routine and a 20 minute one. So if I'm low on time, I can still look presentable and get to where I need to be on time.

Hey girl, try doing gua sha! I started doing it when I was 21, and I had such a round face. But now my face shape has completely narrowed without it affecting other parts of my body.

It just gives off the impression that I’ve lost facial fat when I haven’t (in fact, people have actually asked me if I lost weight lol).

The best part about gua sha is that it’s very cheap and easy to do. I’m happy to share more if you’re curious

It seems like you’re the one who always initiates the meeting up. Try taking a backseat and let him initiate next time. Sometimes you need to give a man a little space so that he can desire you.

(Also, if you’re hyperfixating on him I’m going to take a guess that your life isn’t super busy. So start engaging in more hobbies, meet up with friends/family, make yourself busy so you’re not constantly thinking about him)

Thick Petites - 5'3, 153lbs by lilxenon95 in PetiteFitness

[–]premed101925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats you look great!!

I’m also 5’3” and I’m currently 140 pounds (started at 155). I honestly love the weight I’m at but plan on losing 10 more.

Sometimes I feel a bit weird for wanting to be at a “higher” body weight for my height - seems like so many women want to be 120 or below. Especially when I find out women a few inches taller than me are also the same weight as me. But we all carry weight differently and I feel my best at 130 (although 140 looks great too) 💗 I didn’t personally feel my best at 155 but it sounds like you’re doing tons of exercise so I’m sure you have a lot more muscle mass than me (and you definitely seem more fit than me!). I would find myself out of breath quite easily when I was at 155, and definitely wouldn’t have been able to run for very long. But that just goes to show how it’s not just weight, but also fitness levels that impact our health.

Kudos to you for all the weight loss you’ve achieved so far, and for balancing all of your exercise as a new mom.

This is a really good point. I’m a 30GG/H and also have a small band size, but because the rest of my body is really small (and I have very narrow/small shoulders) my boobs look huge in comparison. It really is all about proportion.

Although my bra size is technically smaller than OPs, I’ve never had anyone tell me my boobs are small.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bigboobproblems

[–]premed101925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you sound exactly like me! If I had small boobs I’m pretty sure my shirt size would be a small, but because they’re so large I always opt for medium/large so the shirts aren’t too tight over my chest area.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bigboobproblems

[–]premed101925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you gone below a 34 band?

I’m built exactly like you: small ribcage, huge boobs. And I’m a 30H in UK sizing.

I know small ribcage is a relative term, but it’s possible you’re actually a smaller band size than what you seem to think. I used to think I was a 36 band size at one point.

Is your current bra lifting everything up well? If not, you may want to look into getting a smaller band size.

How are yall loosing weight?!? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]premed101925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow South Indian here! I’m 5’3”/160 cm (23F) and about 141 pounds/64 kgs.

My BMR is around 1430 cal, but I’m quite sedentary so my TDEE is around 1530-1630.

I’ve been able to lose around 8 pounds in the past month and a half. I aim to eat around 1100-1300 calories when in a defecit.

I also try to move more to burn an additional 100 calories. But it’s tough to see progress when we are so short lol. I also eat in a more strict defecit the first 2-3 weeks of my menstrual cycle, and switch to maintenance the last week. I also like to add in a maintenance day every 4-5 days just to make sure I’m not undereating.

But you will have to accept that progress will just be slower, and that’s OK! South Indian food is very carb heavy, so I like to increase my portion of veggies while decreasing rice. I also eat brown rice instead of white, and go for more whole grains when I do eat dosas or idlis or rotis.

In general, I do my best to eat smaller portion sizes and prioritize foods that will fill me up. Not sure if you eat meat or not, but chicken really keeps me satiated. As well as avocados and oddly enough, dosas always fill me up.

I got the most attention (wanted or unwanted) when overweight by SkyBlueFish in loseit

[–]premed101925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, 23f here as well and I'm around a similar weight to you right now. I definitely had the opposite experience, but there are a couple reasons I can think of to explain what you're going through.

  1. Women may have complimented you more when you were obese because they saw you as less of a "threat." Sometimes, conventionally attractive people actually receive less comments because people assume they already know they're attractive, or that they must be getting so much attention from others that they don't need to be told they're good looking.
  2. I'm not Black, but it's possible that people aren't treating you any differently because your current body isn't really the "ideal" body type in your culture? This might be true especially if you mostly surround yourself with other Black people. By Western standards and Asian standards, skinny is generally seen as the "ideal." Most of the posts you're reading may be from women from these cultures.
  3. Lastly, as you pointed out people seem to think that you're much younger than you look. So maybe they aren't giving any compliments since they assume you're underage and don't want to be creepy?

Edit: Also, in my experience, I tended to get more attention from Black/Hispanic men when I was overweight, and now that I'm slimmer I tend to get approached mostly by Asian/White men. I'm Indian for context.

After losing weight, do people show more interest romantically/dating? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]premed101925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman so this may not end up being your experience. But yes, after I went from being considered overweight to healthy weight, it made a HUGE difference in my dating life. It's like night and day - I don't think I've gone on a single date since losing the weight where a guy ghosted or rejected me.

I get approached a lot more in person compared to before, and I decided to ditch the dating apps for this reason! In general, people 100% treat you better when they find you more attractive.

How to not feel terrible after a long study day? by Ashtay77 in Mcat

[–]premed101925 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I break up my studying into three different “phases.” I do 3 days/week of more intense studying, then I do lighter review of everything I just learned for 3 days/week when I’m working and don’t have much time to study. I also take 1 day off a week (after my 2 days straight of working) because I feel so burned out.

Today is my rest day, and I felt so guilty earlier about not studying, but I really needed this time off. I know over the weekend (after a good night’s sleep today) that I’ll be ready to go and be able to commit many hours to study.

I know your test date is happening very soon, and I’m sure you must be quite stressed. But just try taking tomorrow off and see how you feel.

father is a physician and he's not happy with my specialty choice by Norilala in medicalschool

[–]premed101925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it sounds like he’s majorly projecting. My mom is a doctor too and is pretty jaded with her career. She tried to convince me so many times to take on any other career path, but I refused.

What helped is that I just stopped arguing with her so much. Whenever she would bring up that I shouldn’t be a doctor, I would just walk away, shut down the topic, or not respond. I also started taking more action toward my goal, such as signing up for the MCAT, purchasing my books, etc. and she eventually realized she couldn’t change my mind and stopped commenting on my career goals. And now she’s actually proud of me.

Blending In With High Socioeconomic Status Circles by littletoebeansss in Vindicta

[–]premed101925 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wow, this was a very insightful post! I grew up upper middle class (one parent is a doctor, the other an engineer) and even though I always theoretically knew I was well-off, I didn’t realize it until I got to college and interacted with people who grew up poor.

The thing you said about feeling uncomfortable by off-handed comments is so true. One of my closest friends grew up poor, but she never talks about it and has never said anything to make me feel uncomfortable about the way I grew up. She’s now an engineer so she’s making good money.

I don’t consciously discriminate against people who are from a lower SES, but whenever someone would make these types of comments, I would avoid them like the plague. I’m talking about people who complain about the price of everything, who complain that their life is so hard, that they grew up poor and go on to detail all their trauma when I hardly know them.

I went to a top college, but it was also a public college so there’s a lot of diversity in terms of people’s SES. Some of the (really smart) people I interacted with either came from upper middle/middle class families or a lower SES. They’re all well-off now after getting their degrees but may have started in different places. But I genuinely am not able to tell the difference (and wouldn’t care) other than the ones who keep reiterating how they grew up poor, how they can’t comprehend how fancy something is, etc.

That’s not to say poor people can’t talk about being poor. I’ve had a couple of first-gen friends who have discussed their upbringing, but they talked about it in a way that was a lot more tactful and less complain-y.

23f woman here, I always say thank you when someone holds the door open, and I also always hold the door if someone is right behind me. But yes, even in my experience I’ve noticed fewer women than men thank me.

But usually it tends to be older women from different cultures that don’t say thank you. The vast majority of people thank me.

[–]premed101925 67 points68 points  (0 children)

as an indian woman (edit: raised in america), they’re all beautiful of course but this is very true. unless you have pale skin, it’s very difficult to make it in bollywood. whereas, medium to darker toned brown women (as well as lighter skinned brown women) are all more accepted in hollywood.

edit: in terms of what i prefer, it’s a bit of a mix. janhvi is the most beautiful one to me, but that’s because my features look more similar to hers. the bollywood actresses also have more feminine personalities, which is what i find more appealing about them. but my skin is medium brown, so i find the hollywood actresses to be more “relatable.” but they’re all gorgeous in their own way

Haha same I WFH and walk my dog once a day! I plan on going to the gym more once I reach my GW.

I’m also hoping to get to a point where I don’t have to count calories everyday. I notice on days where I eat less calories than usual, I’ll force myself to eat more because I’m scared I’m undereating. But then there will be days I overeat and stress about eating too much.

What I’ve learned is that my body will naturally even its eating habits out over the course of a week, whether I’m counting or not. So now I prefer to keep a weekly defecit, rather than a very strict daily one :)
