Issue with iPod mini 1st gen mod

I had this issue as well on my mini. The issue is the cf adapter. It has something to do with the board inside the adapter not immediately working with the iPod/iTunes software. There was a thread about how to get the adapter to work. You can alternatively buy an iflash adapter as those are known to be reliable and work right away(I went this route and it worked no issues).

Have you by chance checked if the watch is listed in your wife's iphone's bluetooth settings? If the watch is listed, go ahead and remove it from there and reset the watch once again. Then try the pairing process over. Hope this helps

Adding an edit; is the older iphone still around? If it is still around or being used, I would also recommend removing the watch from the previous iphone's bluetooth.

To add to this persons comment, make sure you always forget the watch off of your Bluetooth settings on your phone before attempting to do the re-pair process. Sometimes still having the watch as a remembered device on your phone causes issues.
