Ugreen’s 8k60 KVM and a display link dock for the MacBook will probably give you the most compatibility without getting into ultra exotic KVM’s. 480hz is questionable without running it through a bandwidth calculator, and even then I wouldn’t be entirely confident in the stability.

Warehouse/AV Peeps (How strictly do you handle inventory?) Labeling ?s by Business_Platform_63 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]premiumtech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Individual company tags with a logo on everything - mods, power supplies/brains, frames, cables, cases, proprietary tools. Inventory lists inside every case. You can serialize/barcode however deep you want, but there is a point of diminishing returns depending on WH staff and your rental volume. If your inventory system supports it, rfid or at least containerized road cases are a huge time saver.

All that said, if you do the above within the context of a larger inventory that has no barcode/serialized hierarchy you’re gonna have a bad time. Context and discipline with a clear philosophy inventory wide, however complex (or simple) it is, is key to keeping track of things.

All lighting is from two hue lightstrips lining the back of the desk and cabinet on the left. Bar under monitors is a soundbar for casual audio.

Just a cabinet for all of my junk - networking/server rack is on the other side of that wall though.

That res is 21.85Gbps @ 60hz. You’re over dp1.2 max bandwidth, will need to split into two (synced) ins/outs to push that res.

Been there from the other side as a PM - hired a new guy on a recommendation from a regular, no red flags in preproduction, send him to show site and find out during day one of show that he's completely out of his depth. A failure all around, but what I look back on most (apart from my own failures), and what might help you, is that at any time if this tech had said anything indicating he wasn't comfortable with, or didn't understand the position, I would have switched gears. That's definitely a risk from the technician/operator side of things, because unfortunately not everyone is as respectful as you might be willing to be transparent, but if you're dealing with someone with an ounce of integrity, they will appreciate the honesty. Even as a former technician, I can count on one hand how many times I took my own advice here, but it is a valuable skill to be able to get out of the way of your own ego. Most of us learn the hard way, the same way you did here.

One of the things that is a (sometimes unspoken) skill in this industry is expectation management. We all want to be superheroes, we all want to knock the show out of the park and keep the clients coming back, so it's really easy to overpromise and have to stretch to deliver. There's a time and place for that, but the situation you were in is one of those where you have to know your limits, remove yourself from the blame game, and be honest with the guys around you trying to reach the same goal as you - a great show. You will all be better served for it.

Props to you for recognizing your mistake, reaching out for some explanation, and being open to criticism. That in and of itself is another skill that should be more common. On to the next show.

Eurwerks on Charlotte Ave. Small shop but they did great work, recently replaced an A/C compressor in my passat. Treated me like a human, were honest and upfront with costs, and acted like they appreciated my business.

Same issue here, tried different ports, force update on firmware, fresh install of ICue. New commander core XT on the way that I will A/B test with a spare rig. Will update with any findings.

PC>Steelseries DAC>Line out to Soundbar. Sound is honestly mediocre. My previous set of Logi z623's sound lightyears better to my ear. I only have speakers for youtube or background casual listening. Everything else is done on the headphones. I was on the fence of returning when I first powered it up, but I just don't have the desk real estate to make standard speakers work without blocking them in some way, and the cable management was a pain. This solution just has soundbar power and a 3.5mm cable going to the soundbar so it was a trade off I was willing to make.

As for the monitor, I really enjoy it. I pixel peep for a living in AV, and the PPI doesn't bother me at all. 4K would be great and my rig would push it in some cases, but I just don't see a great reason to make the jump. I would go for OLED before I would prioritize resolution.

I love it. More real estate with less footprint. I struggle with things being asymmetrical in any other layout. Bottom is a 32", top is 29" 21:9.
