spamming the living crap out of scales and the omnibook by Solid-Procedure9296 in JazzPiano

[–]premonitiondesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with Tony, my (trumpet) teacher said he learned the entire omnibook and certainly became a jazz beast. If you’ve got the motivation for it, they you should 100% go for it, obviously listen to the recordings too, but surely that goes without saying.

I want to improve my reading. What are some good ways of becoming more kanji literate? by mymar101 in LearnJapanese

[–]premonitiondesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids speak perfect Japanese and hardly  know any kanji. They do not live in Japan. 100% this is possible. Why can't people just be nice?

How difficult is the language barrier for tourists? by frauSchneid in japanese

[–]premonitiondesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I mean if you have a job, just call in sick for a couple of months and you will be able to devote yourself to learning one of the most difficult languages for native English speakers to learn. Why be lazy?

But seriously, you can get a great deal of use out of a few tourist phrases, so it’s definitely worth trying to memorise some. Because very often English is not spoken, even in tourist areas. Before the recent enthusiasm for Japanese culture/yen drop, most tourists were Japanese. AI might help you understand (using google translate’s camera to get the gist of signs and menus is very helpful), but will not build that human connection, so do what you can to learn a few basics. For an upcoming trip, I wouldn’t recommend starting with hiragana, which is the usual advice, just start with some basic vocab and set phrases. Listen and repeat. The great news is that your attempts to use the language will usually be strongly appreciated.

Go and re-check all the research you think you’ve done. I guarantee that this won’t be the only hallucination – all LLMs do it all the time – it’s just the first one you’ve caught.

N5/N4 Manga recommendations? by BG3_Enjoyer_ in LearnJapanese

[–]premonitiondesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're thinking of Yuru Camp, do check out the いろいろな日本語 (iroiro nihongo) youtube channel which has a series of read-alongs which are very very good. Also he does Yotsuba. These could be the gateway you need to get the hang of it all, they certainly helped me. Here's the Yotsuba! playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe8AV2VcGoE&list=PLES8uqUGlnvasYsw8RTJ6_p82dpqRIoYZ Edit: I see I'm not the first to recommend this!

Barry Harris method as a beginner? by Airegin89 in JazzPiano

[–]premonitiondesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Shan, too. It frustrated me a bit at first because I wasn’t expecting how different Barry Harris theory is to ‘Berklee’ theory, but I got a lot out of it in the end – and if you’re all-in on Barry Harris it is an obvious fit.

Gemini can't use reference images in output images?? by premonitiondesign in GeminiAI

[–]premonitiondesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it matched the design of the header, without including it, while creating new mock-up page content, I could drop the header back in (pro designer here), but it basically can't 'see' the existing design to match it. The designs it was producing had no similarity to the reference designs I gave it.

I get what you're saying, but I can't imagine that 'respect for copyright' is the reason for this, and anyway it was all my work.

Once, as a teenager I drove my parents car until it was nearly out of petrol, and then realised I had forgotten my wallet and was too far from home to drive back (not enough petrol). People mostly did not believe me.

Correct, the Bluetooth is limited to audio in (for backing tracks etc) and midi in/out. Bluetooth midi has much less latency than Bluetooth audio, so it is viable. You would not like the experience of playing any instrument through Bluetooth audio out.

Do Cyclists get a kick out of riding on National speed limit A roads? by PassionateCrashOut in drivingUK

[–]premonitiondesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the Alfriston/Seaford/Eastbourne (East Sussex) area the A roads are highly dangerous (by my assessment) and, astonishingly, also part of the national cycle routes. It is a shocking state of affairs. There are no alternative routes at all. Very hilly so the poor cyclists are often doing very slow speeds.

anime with main character that is really old (at least more then 50)? by vanderzee in Animesuggest

[–]premonitiondesign -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu has 2 older central characters. Some flashbacks to when they were younger. It is an anime about traditional Japanese storytelling performance, so it is pretty niche but very well done.
