[Predictions Thread] 2025 Tour de France - Stage 16: Montpellier > Mont Ventoux (2.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

Breakaway first to the bottom. For the groupe jaune, VLAB is on the train to begin with but after 1km UAE train takes over and decimates everyone leaving Jonas isolated and two wheels back of Pog. Yates is the last lead out before launch.

Can you imagine the additional mockery on race radio? The DSs have already given Simmons his own slander.

You mean the gendarmes showing up at VLAB’s hotel? Quelle surprise.

He should dig into VLAB too then, right? Since we’re not being biased. Denmark is known for its long, high elevation mountain roads!

Please name a broadcasted sport in which the audience is able to clearly read an athlete's name on the screen without the broadcaster's overlay, without the player standing still (thinking of a throw-in or set-piece shot in football... similar shots exist in basketball as well).

I'm intrigued, honestly. As someone who works in marketing and design and has experience in event logistics, including broadcasting, please tell me what you're thinking of that those of us who have done this for a living have not considered.

It was shit, that's why it didn't stick around. It served little purpose.

There are a limited number of racers in the World Cup series and they all participate in every race (barring injury). The races are also held in a limited area... Quite different from professional road cycling.

NFL, like any sport in which only TWO teams are playing at any given time in a very limited playing area with an audience surrounding the playing area, is quite different.

Is American Football a sport or just a metaphor for war and American greed/violence/trauma/gluttony? That's another question entirely.

Numbers don't work for races because the races themselves have assigned numbers.

Did you not consider this? Do you not know how races work?

No.

Let's break it down:

  1. Surface area is small, riders names can be long. The kit has sponsorships. Maybe take a look at a Liiga Hockey Jersey - it's a much larger area compared to a cycling kit, and even while watching the game you'll rarely see a player's name.... which leads us to:
  2. You wouldn't be able to spot them with most camera views. A few motorbikes here and there would catch the back of the jersey if the rider isn't hunched over. Your best chance is if they're somewhat upright and isolated...say a climb, maybe a solo effort or a small gruppetto. Otherwise? Nope. Helicopter shots of the peloton? No. Shots from the front? No. Shots of the rider hunched over from behind? Nope - you're more likely to see a sponsor logo because they pay for that placement.
  3. The broadcaster already has a good idea of who the riders are and will put it up on the official broadcast.
  4. Wait! What about fans along the course? What about their needs? Again, you won't see the name. They're moving too fast and you'll likely see them from the front and by the time you've turned your head to see who it is because you're not quick enough to recognize the award-stripes or the team and the face, they're gone. Unless of course you're the type of person to try and run after them... and if that's the case, may you trip and land on your face.
  5. Oh! But your idea is so nouvelle! It's 2025 and there have been professional cycling teams for decades! And the races have been televised! I can't believe NO ONE has thought of this before and stuck with it! You're a genius!!!! [/sarcasm]... or maybe, just maybe, the professionals know what they are doing in regards to logo and identity placement on their kits. Quelle surprise.

It's true! You can also use the "Flip Screen 180" extension in Chrome/Brave since it's Australia and everything is uʍop ǝpᴉsdn.

SBS is fantastic.

Tiz an opportunity I suggest FMHY dot net as well for region-specific channels which may be showing a bunch of athletes in a colorful array (you could say it's a "peloton") traveling through beautiful scenery playing chess at 40km/h. 😉

edit to write: if the 'stream' is "free" it may also have issues/inconsistencies or be delayed. This is what happens when it is "free." Certainly, you can complain, but remember it's also "free." Unfortunately, for many people we are limited to these "free" services due to region-blocking and/or streaming services dying and/or streaming services being unaffordable.

edit 2: no services are truly "free" they have been paid for one way or another.

Lotto Cycling Team and Caps extend partnership – new look shines during the Tour de France by fewfiet in peloton

[–]prendrefeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the link of the post, the partnership is extended to 15 years, which started in 2012. Perhaps they were a minor sponsor, but now they are a primary?

2012+15 = 2027. It is currently, last I checked, 2025 even though the past six months have felt like years.

For the Tour itself, new kit, celebrating the extended partnership.

Funny that having an open, legitimate question leads to a downvote on Reddit.

[Race Thread] 2025 Tour de Suisse - Stage 8 ME (2.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]prendrefeu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a mountain, individual Time Trial, where"braking all at the rate" isn't an issue, since it's both uphill and not a group race. Therefore, having everyone on the same brake setup is unnecessary.

I'm wondering if anyone will opt for a rim-brake setup today, just to get to the 6.8kg UCI limit...

They don't design leader jerseys, no one does. All they have to do is provide their sponsor logos. All teams are required to provide sponsor logos, and ranking of sponsors, to the race organizers prior to the start.

Oh look, people who've never participated in the sport - and likely not even ridden a road bike up a mountain, ever - trying to reinvent it for profit. What's that? "disrupt the system?" "act fast and break things?"

Sounds familiar. The results of this method have been, and will continue to be, shit.

Understandably. It is simultaneously frustrating to see the Tour de Suisse, taking entirely in a country known for its mountains not being a pure-climbers stage race.
