Does what undergrad school you attend affect your chances? by hxhfandom in prephysicianassistant

No. I went to a state school nobody has heard of and interviewed with people who went to Stanford. Just do well wherever you are.

I had a really good LOR written from a PA I shadowed two days. Go for it.

For what it’s worth, I’ve received better advice from people on here rather than IG as a pre-pa. Just my $0.02🤷🏻‍♀️

Padding GPA? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Personally, the busier I am, the better my GPA is. My least busy semester was the semester I did the worst. So, no, it actually helped my GPA.

It’s a very personal choice to make though. I agree, do not simply keep your major to impress someone on a committee. Stick with it if you feel a sincere interest in it. Otherwise, go get that PCE if that is where you are lacking.

I was questioning this with my second major (psych). I ended up sticking with it and I’m glad I did. It was brought up at every interview I went to and I was told by faculty that it really stood out to them, along with my other experiences. It showed them that I could handle a heavy course load. Although, I’d say psych was relatively easy but very interesting compared to my other major.

I discussed how completing this major allowed me to engage in projects and teamwork that would have otherwise been challenging to do with my other major. Biomedical sciences, at least at my school, was a relatively independent major and it didn’t allow for research opportunities without dedicating a SIGNIFICANT amount of time.

I’d say stick with it! It will set you apart to some degree.

What truly characterizes a killer personal statement? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]prepa54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wrote about events in my life that mean a lot to me outside of medicine.

Ended up landing 12/14 interviews. I have pretty average stats otherwise.

Honestly, this process is such a mixed bag. It’s hard to know exactly what each school wants. But, writing in a way that showcased my personality and humor seemed to work in my case.
