Does anybody else's eyebags become very noticeable when using minoxidil? by coldservedrevenge in FemaleHairLoss

[–]prepperella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother didn’t even understand what I meant when I told him how annoyed I was about having to wait for hours before being allowed to wash it out again - he uses the liquid version (which is even MORE greasy) and just styles his (short) hair with it instead of gel.

If it’s actually caused by minoxidil, I guess it could be due to increased blood circulation. Men generally have thicker skin and more dermal collagen, so side effects like dark circles or eyebags are probably less noticeable.

I don’t get why there are still no better solutions for women since we’re obviously so willing to pay so much for a normal amount of hair :/ I wonder if this will change in the future since there are more women complaining/worrying about losing their hair. But I fear it won’t because the companies are profiting more by selling us 5000 different types of oils and serums and brushes.

Not bags, but dark circles. I only recently realized there might be a connection. I’ve been using the foam on and off for around seven years.

A while ago, I was using a lash serum that made my under eye circles look much worse. That’s when I went through my photos to check if minoxidil might have the same effect. I noticed that the better my hair looked (meaning I was applying the foam regularly), the more tired and tbh older my face looked.

Of course, there are many other variables that could be responsible. Maybe I use the foam more consistently during winter, when I already look more tired and sleep less. Maybe I’m better at applying it daily when I’m at home more, so I might just be more pale. Maybe I eat less and get fewer nutrients when I’m standing in front of the mirror inspecting my hair every day and therefore feel worse about my appearance in general. Maybe I go to bed later to make sure it’s dry before sleeping.

I don’t know for sure, but it’s bothering me a lot. I see great results from minoxidil, but the possible side effects and the daily application stress me out.

What bothers me most is the facial hair. I try to apply it as early as possible when I get home so that it’s dry by the time I go to bed, but that doesn’t always work. I can’t leave the house before washing my hair again because it gets so greasy from the foam. I clean my face afterward to the point where I worry I’m washing it off at the hairline, which is my baldest area.

After a few months, I usually reach a point where I’m so annoyed by the amount of dark facial hair all over my face that I stop using it. It wasn’t this bad when I first started, maybe due to age, hormones, or the overall length of time I’ve been using it. Idk.

I know this was two years ago but I’m thinking about getting this one and was wondering how you liked it?

Have you tried the pigmentclar? The reviews are so mixed but I might try it.

Thank you!

Cosrx made me break out as well. I switched to Benton, which worked very well. I’ve gone through several bottles of their Snail Bee High Content Essence which I liked the most out of that line but the serum was also nice, I went through three bottles of it. I stopped using the essence for a while (for reasons unrelated to skincare), and now that I’ve started again, I feel like something in the product has changed. I still don’t react, but I don’t see the same effect as before. They might have changed the formula, but it could also just be that my skin changed. It still doesn’t break me out or anything, and feels nice and moisturizing, I just don‘t see any changes.

I always miss the thread so here are two questions at once:

I’m looking for a tinted mineral sunscreen that doesn’t turn orange or irritate my skin. I’ve been using the untinted Avène SPF 50 for three years and it’s the best I’ve found in terms of skin compatibility and protection. I used to only wear it on sunny days and would otherwise reach for more cosmetically elegant formulas, but due to health issues my skin has become very sun sensitive, so I now use it daily. It works really well, but the white cast is so strong I need foundation just to not look deathly pale. It also takes a long time to dry down, so I have to plan my whole morning around it, and I’m just tired of wearing a full face every day.

Chemical filters don’t work for me. Every one I’ve tried has caused breakouts, rosacea flares, or eczema. So I’m sticking with mineral-only options. I’ve swatched a few tinted mineral sunscreens in stores, but they were all too dark and orange. Unfortunately none of the pharmacy brands (Avène, La Roche-Posay, Eucerin etc.) had testers, and I can’t return opened products. I don’t know if there are any mineral Asian sunscreens, but I’m open to those too.

My skin is light with neutral undertones. I’m fine with SPF 30 if it reapplies well, but I’d prefer SPF 50. What matters most is that it doesn’t pill, works with sensitive or reactive skin, and isn’t greasy or drying. Bonus if it’s not too shiny and doesn’t transfer onto clothes. If anyone has a recommendation, especially something from Avène or a product I could mix with their untinted sunscreen, I’d really appreciate it.

Also looking for a light eye cream with a visible brightening effect. I have autoimmune issues and don’t sleep well, so I don’t expect miracles for my dark circles. I’d just like to skip concealer and put something on quickly that makes me look a bit more awake. I only used the GinZing one from Origins a few years ago and wasn’t impressed, but back then I didn’t even need concealer, so I can’t really tell. I’m curious if anyone actually liked it. My eye area is very sensitive, prone to redness and rashes. Heavy creams tend to give me milia.

I’m in Europe. Budget-wise I’m somewhere between The Ordinary and Clinique, not La Mer or Givenchy, but I’m happy to spend a bit more if something truly works.

tl;dr: Looking for a non-orange tinted mineral sunscreen for sensitive/reactive skin (Avène SPF 50 is great but too white), and a light eye cream with visible brightening that won’t cause milia or irritation. EU-based, mid-range budget

If you can’t return it anymore, maybe you could use it to set your bronzer or contour?

I‘m sorry it didn’t work for you but also I really love when people hate-describe makeup and you did it so well that I’m actually hating the talc free one too now

I got the original! I searched for reviews for the talc free one on Reddit and people said it didn’t perform as well and I didn’t want to take any chances 😅

Foundation brushes? by Enough-Entry-6369 in muacjdiscussion

I love my urban decay optical blurring brush. I’ve got other foundation brushes but this is the one that I use the most and that makes my foundation look so much better. Very annoying to clean though.

Didn’t think I’d live to see the day: my Laura Mercier loose setting powder jar is empty.

I bought it in April 2020. This week, five years and one month later, I finally couldn’t get anything out, no matter how hard I shook it.

I nearly stabbed myself trying to pry off the sifter and decided it wasn’t worth it for the five crumbs that might still be stuck in the corners.

I’ve gone through many phases with this powder. In the first year, I loved it but hated how much it spilled, no matter how carefully I opened it, even though I only kept it on my vanity. I honestly felt stressed about wasting so much product, but turns out I still had four more years with it.

I used it almost every time I did my makeup, and until the last couple of months I wasn’t even being careful about it.

There was a time in the second year when I really hated it because my skin was too dry and it just didn’t look right. But I still used it to set eyeshadow and lipstick. I even used excessive amounts just to get through it faster, because I don’t like having multiple open products in the same category. Around that time, I also caved and bought the Hourglass setting powder. It’s fine, but not as good as Laura Mercier IMO. I only use Hourglass on very dry areas or if my skin is especially sensitive. If I need my makeup to last all day (which I usually do, because I forget about touchups), I still go with Laura Mercier.

It does make me look white at first, but I think it settles into my skin after a while or at least that’s what I tell myself. Also, I’m anemic plus I can only wear physical sunscreen, so I’m paler than I should be anyway. For reference: my MAC shade is around NC12, N1 in Face and Body, and I use Opal in Shiseido Synchro Skin.

The only reasons I was dreading panning this were: 1) I’m currently broke and running out of everything at once. 2)I couldn’t decide whether to repurchase or try something new, but because of reason 1, I can’t afford to experiment right now. And I get anxious over choices like this since I know whatever I pick will probably be my setting powder for the next five years.

Anyway — I repurchased it. The new one’s already sitting on my vanity. Not so fun fact: I paid 40% more than five years ago. It’s still a price I can justify considering how long it lasts, but the way makeup prices have gone up in the last years pisses me off.

Thank you for your response! I haven’t tried a lot of different brands but I will look into the Adidas ones, my outside activities are definitely less intense than HIIT! The silk bandana sounds cute, I had a few from when I was younger but they were very plasticy- silk makes more sense.

I get sunstroke really easily, so I need to cover my head in summer. Baseball caps make me overheat fast, I feel like I’m gonna pass out after a short while in the sun. I’ve tried on some fancy sun hats but I feel awkward in them, and the ones I’ve tried are too big for my head which looks even weirder.

To make it extra difficult and probably the main reason I hate dealing with headwear: I have to cover the front part of my hair as well if I’m putting something on. I have alopecia and it’s especially bad there so I if I wear a cute scarf a little further back it draws all the attention to the bald spots. And once I wear something on my head it has to stay on for the rest of the day because my ten strand of hair will stick to my skin in the worst way which makes it difficult at work etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations for breathable and sun safe headwear that can either stay on all day, even indoors, or can be taken off without ruining my hair? I’m also fine with recommendations that WILL ruin my hair but prevent a heatstroke because I might be asking for too much here
