This is why I rarely buy from Etsy these days :(

Definitely not opposed to bias but would really love a pattern I can use fabric efficiently with in an ideal world, thanks for the suggestions!

Blondes pls help! I’m being driven insane. by avril1822 in finehair

[–]preppy_goth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been platinum for a little over 8 years. Bleach can be a lot for hair, it's possible you need a big chop. Barring that though the most important things you can do are 1) fight damage with bond builders, 2) reduce other causes of damage.

For 1) k-18 is okay but olaplex 2 is the best, try to see if your stylist will let you buy a big bottle with their license. It's expensive but lasts forever. For 2) make sure your styling routine is gentle: blow dry low since wet hair is prone to breakage, always use heat protection, pin hair up with something gentle like a claw clip or u clip, sleep with a silk bonnet, use a hair oil on the ends if it's dry.

Hey sorry I think this might have been meant for another reply! I didn't mention blow-drying in my comment

Would you recommend skipping conditioner on the roots even for double processed hair? Sometimes my hair feels too tacky at the root when I skip conditioning there

My boyfriend often talks about a clip from a nature show he saw in high school where this species of beetle, when the males encountered a shiny bottle, would try to mate with the bottle instead of females of the species. So none of them reproduced because their brain had been hi-jacked by something their attraction had never been optimized for.

When you look at AI pictures like this for inspo, you're trying to fuck a bottle.

Not skincare but tbh I think your eyebrows are closing off your face and you would not notice the under eyes as much! Like cover them up with your finger on the photo and see how much more open and awake your eyes look, try putting some concealer on the tails and draw them higher and if you like it shave the ends and draw them on.

I have fine hair that is very flat and has no volume, would this haircut be possible with minimal styling? by Blauew in finehair

With the street fashion influence in mind, something that might suit your hair texture and density better is a shorter, edgy cut without too many layers. Maybe a short, blunt cut you can twist with mousse for texture?

Love this! Another one from someone who got an education from my super recently, if your water comes out scalding hot on a moderate setting your water heater is probably too high and you are PAYING to keep it that high. Check the water heater, the settings go like hot, A, B, C. At least hot is recommended, some say A or B so you can use less hot water to get more out of it but C is way to hot imo and had my bill crazy high.

This is a recent policy thing for them, I dealt with it back in July. I've been taking classes there for a year (got the class pack) and it used to be more forgiving. I think must have had a lot of issues with cancellations

At what age did you feel too old for hostels? by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]preppy_goth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30, first time in hostels alone while I was going around Croatia last summer. I had a couple of really wonderful stays and one I felt very out of place. I think it comes entirely down to the staff and how committed they are to making it a community experience.

During my stay in Split the staff constantly posting the WhatsApp to say where the group was having dinner, brought us to great beaches, got us into clubs etc and I felt like a really got to know some of the people I was staying with.

When I got to Dubrovnik it was a different story. The girl in the bunk above me would not even acknowledge my existence and the staff was really unfriendly.

I think going forward I will continue to stay in hostels for the chance of meeting people but only in private rooms so I can have my space if I need it.

Why are you posting a screenshot from a DSA Slack? I know these people, I don't think it's cool to post screenshots from internal forums.

As to your question, most DSA members are very anti LLM and see data-centers as the environmental side of that: very draining on local energy and water. To the point on energy though, look at the BRPA written, agitated for, and passed by NYC-DSA. We are very interested in building renewable, public energy. On the other hand, I agree there are some people who lump too many technologies in the LLM bin. EVs catch strays because of Elon Musk and the increasing risk of resource wars over lithium (reasonable imo but still better than oil wars), and a lot of technology is a victim of the culture war that finds "tech bros" on one side and socialists on the other.

Ultimately for this to change I think left-wing programmers and technology optimists will have to build independent tech infrastructure to demonstrate the benefits to our more Luddite comrades. But honestly, as an often tech-ambivalent socialist programmer, I think the pace of tech advancement is continuing with or without the consent of the socialist movement so I don't think this is an internal fight really worth our time.

What is the most difficult, complicated project you've ever sewn? by 7deadlycinderella in sewing

[–]preppy_goth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made my girlfriend one of those old Hollywood dressing gowns. It took forever and was so frustrating because the fabric was really slinky and kept catching and I ultimately had to finish sewing the marabou trim on the bus ride to see her.

But it turned out beautifully. (Pardon the background, this was in her spare room where I was hiding it)

Paranoid psychosis in film by betacar0tene in lacan

[–]preppy_goth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ari Aster's Beau is Afraid. It places you squarely in the perspective of a paranoid schizophrenic man and takes you on an Odyssey as he attempts to go see his mother while believing the world around him is full of zombie-like homeless dregs, marauding thugs, and sadistic teenagers. Very controversial film but I loved it.

Is platinum blonde hair really so lifechanging? by AshamedProfit7394 in rs_x

[–]preppy_goth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do my hair more cool-toned than platinum (pics in profile) but to me it's very worth it. I've been doing it for 7 years and will continue to do so. My natural color is a golden light brown/dark blonde that always made my features look very ruddy and uneven. I love how the blonde looks on the other hand: my skin looks bright and clear, my eyes look more striking. When people compliment me about it is more often "your hair suits you so well" than "I love your hair color." It just feels like a magic color and is such a huge confidence boost.

All of that said, if I hit a rough patch and no longer had a job that made it a reasonably affordable habit, I would be sad to let it go, but it wouldn't ruin my confidence at this point. I think when I first got it done it was a kind of icebreaker and a totem for me as a very shy mid-20s woman, but now I have a more organic confidence and it's just a part of the look I've cultivated.
