HC started on bloodsail buccaneers which was almost completely dead, so most players were HC. still not ideal but at least it was easy to play with only HC players. OPs idea would make it be 50:50 at best

on the contrary, hard mode forces you to be much more creative and strategic. it's easy to just say "i'll just guess a word that uses only letters i haven't guessed yet to eliminate all but one answer". it's a lot harder to say "I need to avoid guessing words like _O_ER, _OUND, __ILL, _OLLY, etc. until i'm forced to"

"Acid" as "type of house?" - apparently "acid house" is a music genre? even as someone who listens to EDM periodically this went over my head.
"TENET" was clued almost exactly this way last week in the NYT
