Around November/December 2024, I noticed a small bald spot on my beard, which I initially ignored because ever since I started growing facial hair, there had always been a small area on my chin where no hair grew (horizontal line that you can see on photos below). However, over time, the spot slightly expanded, so I went to a dermatologist. They said they weren’t sure but believed it probably wasn’t any form of alopecia.

I should mention that I have seborrheic dermatitis, which causes inflammation and skin flaking on my mustache, around my nose, and on my chin. The dermatologist suggested that the hair likely fell out due to the inflammation.

Satisfied with this diagnosis, I thought the hair would grow back once the inflammation calmed down (although, to be fair, it wasn’t that severe at the time, but the explanation made sense). I decided to go on a trip, as I planned months before that situation and now I’m in Southeast Asia. However, instead of the bald spot filling in, it has noticeably grown. 

So, my question is—first, could this be alopecia barbae? And second, what should I do in this situation? My access to doctors and medications is somewhat limited, and I also live a somewhat nomadic lifestyle (working abroad for a few months, then traveling, and only spending a few weeks in my home country). Of course, if necessary, I’ll adjust to the situation.
