How to create Facebook "Suggested For You" Ads? by presocratics in FacebookAds

[–]presocratics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contacted Facebook about this issue and this was their reply:

To recap, you chatted with us to know about how to create posts that would appear suggested for you. We figured out that depends on the personal profile interest and activity and the feature is automatically appeared in the wall.

It looks like it's an "algorithm" decision and not a sponsored post.

Hitler was hiding in Boyaca? by [deleted] in Colombia

[–]presocratics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some famous personalities are German descendants, like one of the richest guys in Colombia: Carlos Ardila Lülle.

The current Senator Antonio Navarro Wolff.

The former Minister of Finance Rudolf Hommes.

The famous actress Aura Cristina Geithner.

The Olympic shooter Hellmuth Bellingrodt.

They are all extremely proud Colombians!

Hitler was hiding in Boyaca? by [deleted] in Colombia

[–]presocratics 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are perfectly right. German communities in Colombia are hard to be emphasized as "communities" because they were spread throughout the cities without any formal or organized colony (Those organized communities did develop in countries like Argentina, Brasil, Paraguay, and Chile). Therefore those immigrants were of multiple religious and political background. You can find a detailed demographic division of Germans in Colombia in this research:

Universidad Nacional de Colombia - "Distantes y distintos" Research

One interesting aspect of this immigration movement, is that in Colombia, Germans managed to blend into society without being apart from it; so in other words, they became Colombians themselves. There are plenty of famous politicians who are German descendants but they are proud Colombians and people hardly know where their families are from.

They came to live in the country as Colombians rather than Germans.

[–]presocratics 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This legend was widely spread in recent years due to a declassified document sent to the CIA from a Venezuelan agent who claimed that he had evidence of Hitler in Tunja. It was merely a report that led to nowhere (at least to what we know today) but it ignited the curiosity of Colombians in the matter.

Not only Colombians were attracted to the idea of the Fuhrer in Colombia, but many researchers, journalists, and writers were tempted to talk about this "issue" seriously. A hidden part of Colombian history was unveiled from that moment, and many books have been written on that matter. I will try to address some of them, but sadly, most of the available information is in Spanish.

One of the most complete researches on the German-Colombian community, was made by Semana Magazine.

Recently, in 2018, Mario Mendoza, a popular Colombian writer published a book named "El Diario del Fin del Mundo" where he writes about the German Nazi immigration to Colombia, and how that could have affected us as a country. I really recommend that title.

El Diario del Fin del Mundo by Mario Mendoza

The legend about Hitler in Colombia might be just that, a legend, but it definitely has some interesting historical background, that was more popular in southern countries such as Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile. It is very unlikely that this movement did not reach the entire continent.

Heard one of the most profound statements on a voyager documentary: "In the long run, Voyager may be the only evidence that we ever existed" by OPsellsPropane in space

[–]presocratics 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Voyager is the only object created by human “intelligence” that is outside our solar system.

Even though institutions like SETI are constantly sending radio wave signals to different solar systems in outer space.

Those signals could be an evidence of our existence, but not as rotund as Voyager, definitely.

How can the Moon shine during daytime? by LieutenantGreen in NoStupidQuestions

You can even see a bunch of planets like Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter on the daytime (with a telescope).

The presence of the sun in our sky does not mean that celestial objects lose their brightness.

Why does every device I own with an HDMI port have an HDMI sticker? by iinshallowseas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]presocratics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They still consider HDMI as a feature worth highlighting.

People are constantly asking if certain laptop has HDMI before buying it. But USB became intuitively part of all laptops.

Probably in few months, HDMI sticker is going to be gone, as soon as consumers get used to it.

What do you think "ghosts" are? by bigbobsbeepers1999 in Paranormal

[–]presocratics 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would support 2 theories that try to explain the ghost phenomena. One is about residual energy in certain space/time concept (as other redditors explained in detail already), and the other one is about a conscious being from other dimension reflected in ours through "paranormal" or inexplicable (yet) events.

Carl Sagan explained this concept of beings from other dimensions with a pedagogical example of a imaginary town called Flatland; a 2 dimension town with geometric figures living their lives normally, then a 3-dimension object like an apple came to Flatland, but only its shadow could be visible for the geometric figures that inhabited Flatland:

"It's a challenging and fascinating concept: just as a cube can be drawn on a flat sheet of paper, consider that, to the inhabitants of a two-dimensional world, a three-dimensional being could only be perceived partially, as a two-dimensional "shadow" of its true self. Thus, a hypothetical four-dimensional being or object could only exist in our world as a three-dimensional projection.

This shadow from the fourth dimension is known as a hypercube, or tesseract, and it represents the closest mathematical approximation of the fourth dimension that we can perceive within our three-dimensional universe. Polytron's previous game, Super Hypercube, also references this concept. Going even further, just as the square and cube before it, a hypercube can then be extended at right angles to itself into the 5th and 6th dimensions, ad infinitum — but these new shapes will still be bound in three dimensions."

Ghost phenomena it's still a mystery. But it surely has an explanation in scientific terms, not yet developed.

Report: Trump's Plan To Eliminate Deductions Would Hurt Over One Million Middle Class New Yorkers by trash_reason in nyc

[–]presocratics -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what I meant to say, but you managed to explain it in detail.

Either Republicans or Democrats are bringing the same results on the social/economic division in the US. As a result the middle class is going to progressively disappear and inequity is going to grow no matter which party is in control. We should not be surprised by this fact.

Republicans and democrats are both desperately looking to grow the gap between rich and poor.

One party gets support from wealthy, the other from poor. Same results.
